Rangers moving Wandy Rodriguez to bullpen

Rangers starting pitcher Wandy Rodriguez is being moved to the bullpen with Nick Martinez set to rejoin the rotation Monday against the Rockies, according to MLB.com. "Right now, Wandy is going to pitch out of the bullpen," Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. "We want to get Nick back into play. We wanted to give him a chance to freshen up, now we're going to get him back up here. "We've got (Matt) Harrison in the rotation, we need to get him back on a regular routine. We want to get Martin Perez on a regular routine. Unplugging Wandy out of the rotation and using him in the bullpen, we felt he was the best guy to go. We can replug him into the rotation." Rangers P Wandy Rodriguez gives up 8 runs in loss

Rangers pitcher Wandy Rodriguez had a rough night, allowing eight earned runs in Wednesday night's 8-2 loss to the Athletics. From the beginning, Rodriguez was off. He gave up all eight runs in the first two innings, surrendering five in the first frame. Rodriguez, who went four innings, was tagged for 11 hits, walked three batters and struck out four. "Before tonight I felt like Wandy competed very well, gave us competitive outings, moved the fastball around, used the breaking ball, really veteran outings for us," manager Jeff Banister said, via the Dallas Morning News. "He got the outs when he needed to, was able to maneuver the ball around and pitched well. This is the first time he's thrown a shoe really. Tough one. We'll move on from it, play tomorrow, and I'm sure Wandy, he'll erase this one from his memory bank. If I know him well, he'll figure out what went wrong and move on." This was by far Rodriguez's worst outing of the season. He entered the game with a 2.37 ERA in his past three starts. Rodriguez fell to 4-3 record wise and has a 4.06 ERA.
