Rangers' Bobby Wilson: Signs minor league contract with Rangers

Wilson signed a minor league contract with the Rangers Tuesday, John Blake of the Texas Rangers reports. Wilson played with both the Rays and Rangers in 2015, but batted a lowly .189 in 132 at-bats between the two teams. The 32-year-old is a somewhat serviceable catching option when needed, as the Rangers know from last season, and will likely serve as organizational depth going forward.

Rangers' Bobby Wilson: Will become free agent

Wilson will elect to become a free agent after refusing his outright assignment, Executive Vice President of Communications for the Rangers John Blake reports. Wilson appeared in 56 games for the Rays and Rangers in 2015, but the 32-year-old back-up catcher wasn't able to do much at the plate, recording a .189/.255/.250 slash line in 132 at-bats. He's never been known for his offense, but he should receive some interest in free agency from teams looking for a veteran backstop.
