Diamondbacks' Joaquin Arias: Agrees to minor deal with Diamondbacks

Arias agreed to a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks on Sunday that includes an invite to spring training, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. Arias's deal will give him a chance to showcase his skills at spring training, with the middle infield likely representing the weakest portion of the Diamondbacks' roster heading into camp. The 31-year-old saw action in 40 games with the Giants last season, batting just .207/.207/.276 with one home run and four RBI in 58 at-bats.

Giants SS Brandon Crawford takes a seat Thursday vs. Dodgers

Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford is being held out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers. Crawford has been red-hot at the plate, batting .432 over his last 10 games. But he has just one hit in 18 career at-bats against Dodgers' starter Clayton Kershaw. So, after starting each of the last eight games, Crawford will take a seat in favor of Joaquin Arias on Thursday. Crawford should be back in the lineup on Friday.

Little-used Giants SS Joaquin Arias enjoys three-hit Tuesday

Giants shortstop Joaquin Arias did not score a run Tuesday night. Nor did he drive one in. But it's not his fault that the two batters before him in the lineup were hitless in eight at-bats or that nobody got him home. The infrequently used Arias did his job to the tune of three singles in three at-bats, all against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. He has four hits in the last two games, catapulting his average from .143 to .316.
