Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: In lineup Friday

Cabrera, who left Wednesday's game against the Nationals with back spasms before he took his first at-bat, is back in the lineup Friday. Cabrera has been moved up to second in the lineup against the Dodgers uber-prospect Julio Urias while slotting in at his usual shortstop position.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Leaves Wednesday with back spasms

Cabrera left Wednesday's game against the Nationals with back spasms before he took his first at-bat, MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reports. It was a bizarre exodus, as Cabrera had not yet taken an at-bat or played the field before he was removed, so his owners in daily leagues will be left with a goose egg. Matt Reynolds replaced him at shortstop, and would figure to continue to see time there if Cabrera is forced to miss further time with the back issue. The Mets starting shortstop has not experienced back spasms since the summer of 2014, and in that case he ended up missing almost a week with the discomfort. New York is off Thursday so his next chance to return would be Friday against the Dodgers.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Removed prior to game due to back spasms

Cabrera was listed in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Nationals but was removed before receiving an at-bat or playing the field due to back spasms, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports. Matt Reynolds replaced Cabrera in the lineup.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Hits third homer Tuesday

Cabrera went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and three strikeouts Tuesday in Washington. Cabrera is riding a .344 BABIP to a .283 average thus far, but extra-base hits like this homer have been few and far between as his .108 isolated power represents by far the shortstop's lowest mark since 2010. Add in a 19.6 percent strikeout rate that's 2.2 percent higher than his career mark, and you get a lot of signs that the 30-year-old is starting to decline.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Out of the lineup Sunday

Cabrera is not in the lineup Sunday against the Giants, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports. Cabrera has started each of the Mets' first 22 games this season at shortstop, but will get a day of rest in favor of Wilmer Flores for the afternoon contest. The veteran infielder is 3-for-6 against opposing pitcher Madison Bumgarner in his career, and actually hits southpaws a bit better than right-handers when looking at his career numbers, so Cabrera's absence Sunday appears to be maintenance related.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Two hits, two runs in Sunday's win

Cabrera went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in Sunday's win over the Indians. After failing to cross the plate through the first seven games of the season, Cabrera's now scored three runs in the last four contests, adding some actual production to his solid .308/.357/.359 slash line. As long as he keeps hitting second for the Mets, though, the counting stats should come.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Off to slow start

Cabrera is hitting .294 but has just one batted in and a .704 on-base plus slugging percentage. Cabrera, after very slow start, hit 15 home runs last year and has blasted at least 14 his last five seasons. The power and runs batted in should come, though it looks like the Mets and his fantasy owners will need to be patient to see them.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Set to return to Cactus League play Monday

Cabrera (knee) is slated to return to Grapefruit League action Monday, ESPN.com's Adam Rubin reports. Cabrera was initially scheduled to play Sunday, but he said that he first wanted to log some time at shortstop in the minors before doing so. He's scheduled to play four innings in the minors after serving as the designated hitter a day earlier.

Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Will remain out Sunday

Cabrera (knee) will remain out of the lineup in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports. The Mets were hopeful that Cabrera would be able to make his return Sunday, but manager Terry Collins said the infielder still hasn't been fully cleared by team trainers. Cabrera was at least able to serve as the designated hitter during a minor league game Saturday, going 2-for-5 with a double and a single. He's been out of Grapefruit League action since March 10.
