      Jim Adduci headed to play overseas after release by Rangers

      The Rangers announced Monday outfielder Jim Adduci was placed on unconditional release waivers for purpose of playing in Asia in 2015. Adduci was designated for assignment Friday. Adduci hit .189 with one home run, four doubles and eight RBI in 61 games for the Rangers since 2013.

      Rangers shore up 40-man roster

      The Rangers have made changes to the 40-man roster. The team purchased the contracts of Jorge Alfaro , Hanser Alberto, Jerad Eickhoff and Luke Jackson . All four players will now be protected from the Rule 5 draft. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the team designated outfielder Jim Adduci for assignment.

Adduci has been out since breaking his left pinkie finger in April, but has appeared in two games on his rehab assignment entering Saturday.       Rangers outfielder Jim Adduci began a minor-league rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Frisco. Adduci played the field for sixth innings and singled in a run in the opening frame. He finished 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI in his first game action. He will play five games before he is re-evaluated again before the team decides to reinstate him from the disabled list.
