      Giants' Denard Span: Passes Physical

Span (hip) passed a physical and is officially a Giant, the club reported Thursday night. Span had season-ending hip surgery in September but isn't expected to miss any regular season or spring training time with the injury. Giants doctors didn't see anything wrong with Span, so there's every reason to believe he'll be good to go when it's time to report.

Giants' Denard Span: Signs with Giants

Span (hip) agreed to a three-year contract with the Giants on Thursday, Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports. After an injury-plagued 2015 season with the Nationals that included him undergoing season-ending hip surgery, Span landed a multi-year contract with the Giants on Thursday. The expectation is for Span to immediately compete for the every day gig in center field for the Giants in place of the aging and oft-injured Angel Pagan. Span served as the Nationals' leadoff batter as well last season, compiling a .301/.365/.431 slash line with 38 runs scored in 246 at-bats.

It is not yet clear if Span will need more than the minimum 15 days before returning. The Nationals will announce a corresponding roster move on Friday.

Nationals OF Denard Span (back) may return Tuesday

The Nationals could receive a huge boost as they prepare for the stretch run, as center fielder Denard Span could return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday, per CSNWashington.com. Span has been on the disabled list with back spasms since July 7, and without him in the lineup, Washington is 10 games under .500. He's gone 7-for-17 in six rehab appearances, which may be enough to convince the Nats to bring him up. Span has a .304/.367/.430 slash line in 59 games this season.
