Nationals' Ryan Zimmerman: Files defamation lawsuit after PED allegations

Zimmerman filed a defamation lawsuit Tuesday against the Al Jazeera network and two reporters after being linked to the use of performance-enhancing drugs in a Dec. 27 report, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. "I have always taken pride in my personal conduct," Zimmerman said in a statement. "While I am not a litigious person, I felt it was necessary to file this suit to restore my reputation and to hold Al Jazeera accountable for its actions." Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, also named in the report, filed a lawsuit as well Tuesday, while MLB will conduct its own independent investigation into the allegations. Zimmerman won't face any kind of suspension until that investigation is completed, however.

Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman likely done for 2015

Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman (oblique) is not expected to return this season, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports. This was widely expected after Zimmerman reported feeling pain in his left side while swinging last week, but manager Matt Williams acknowledged Tuesday that the first baseman is likely done for the year. It's simply not worth risking Zimmerman's long-term health to bring him back, with four years remaining on his contract. The oblique issue is not expected to affect Zimmerman's offseason routine.
