      Mariners have loaned P Rafael Perez to Quintana Roo Tigers

      Mariners pitcher Rafael Perez has been loaned to the Quintana Roo Tigers of the Mexican League, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. Perez, 32, was signed to a minor-league contract this spring by the team. In 24 appearances last season, the lefty posted an ERA of 2.87 for the Rangers and Pirates in Triple-A. He hasn't had an appearance in the majors since 2012.

      Peterson, Marte, Kivlehan among Mariners cuts Friday

      The Mariners announced Friday they cut 11 players from major-league camp. Pitcher Lucas Luetge, catcher John Hicks, indielder Ketel Marte, infielder Jesus Montero, outfielder James Jones and outfielder Stefen Romero were optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. Pitcher Justin Germano, pitcher Rafael Perez, infielder D.J. Peterson, infielder Patrick Kivlehan and outfielder Franklin Gutierrez were reassigned to minor-league camp. Peterson (No. 2), Marte (No. 3) and Kivlehan (No. 4) are among the Mariners' top prospects, according to Baseball America.

      Rafael Perez staying with Twins

      Twins reliever Rafael Perez will remain in the team's minors as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery. Perez is eligible to walk away from his contract Wednesday, but understands that his recovery is taking longer than he anticipated. He'll join the team's Triple-A club in Rochester in order to try and build his arm strength. Perez's agent and the club worked out a "gentleman's agreement" that Perez could opt out of his contract if he's not in the majors at some point during the summer.       Twins pitcher Rafael Perez threw an inning at extended spring training Friday but is progressing slowly in his rehab from a shoulder injury, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Perez's strength "still isn't quite where it needs to be" according to Twins assistant GM Rob Antony. Perez can opt out of his contract if he isn't in the majors by May 1 -- unlikely, given his slow progress -- or he can choose to remain with the Twins as he rehabs.
