    • Nationals cut 10 from spring camp

News: The Nationals optioned left-hander Mike O'Connor to Triple-A Syracuse and left-hander Ross Detwiler to Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday in their first round of spring training cuts. O'Connor was 1-1 with a 13.00 ERA in five games, including one start, for Washington in 2008. Detwiler, who was 8-8 in 26 starts with Class A Potomac last year, was the Nationals' first-round draft pick in 2007 out of Missouri State. The Nationals also reassigned eight players to their minor league camp: left-hander Justin Jones; right-handers Bobby Brownlie, Preston Larrison and J.D. Martin; catcher Javier Herrera; first basemen Chris Marrero and Matt Whitney; and outfielder Destin Hood.
Analysis: Marrero and Detwiler are top long-term keeper prospects, while the other players are nothing more than organizational depth at this point. Ignore them in all Fantasy leagues right now.
    • Nats sign 13 to minor league deals

News: The Washington Nationals signed the following players to minor league deals on Saturday: Infielders Freddie Bynum, Brad Eldred, Joel Guzman, and Matt Whitney; outfielders Jorge Padilla and Mike Vento; right-handers Bobby Brownlie, Preston Larrison, J.D. Martin and Ryan Wagner; and left-hander Justin Jones. Outfielder Ryan Langerhans and infielder Pete Orr were also among the 13 players the Nats signed to deals.
Analysis: All of these players have little Fantasy value unless they make the big club out of spring training. None of them are really expected to do so and should be avoided in Fantasy at this time.
    • Nats make slew of spring cuts

News: The Nationals reassigned RHP Collin Balester, RHP Rob Bell, LHP Eude Brito, RHP Bobby Brownlie, RHP Adam Carr, SS Ian Desmond, OF Jason Dubois, C Javier Herrera, 1B Luis Jimenez, SS Ed Rogers, RHP Brian Sanches, LHP Jason Stanford and RHP Dennis Tankersley to minor league camp. Also, they optioned OF Rogeravin Bernadina to Double-A Harrisburg, RHP Tyler Clippard to Triple-A Columbus, LHP Ross Detwiler to Class A Potomac, OF Justin Maxwell to Double-A Harrisburg, RHP Garrett Mock and 1B Josh Whitesell to Triple-A Columbus. Finally, they released C Chad Moeller unconditionally.
Analysis: Balester rivals Detwiler for the status as the Nats top pitching prospect. He might be more big league ready, though, as are Mock and Clippard in Triple-A. Maxwell is an intriguing outfield prospect, while the rest of these players are nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in all Fantasy leagues on Draft Day.
    • Brownlie among Nats spring invitees

News: Left-hander Mike Bacsik, who gave up Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th homer, agreed to terms on a minor league deal with the Nationals. Bacsik was among 19 minor league free agents the Nationals announced Tuesday agreed to contracts and were invited to spring training. The other minor league free agents, several of whom have major league experience, are right-handers Steven Shell, Dennis Tankersley, Bobby Brownlie, Tristan Crawford and Jim Ed Warden; left-handers Mike Hinckley, Arnie Munoz and Jason Stanford; catchers Humberto Cota and Chad Moeller; infielders William Bergolla, Yurendell de Caster, Antonio Perez, Luis Jimenez and Ed Rogers; and outfielders Jason Dubois, Tommy Murphy and Jorge Padilla.
Analysis: Brownlie was once a top prospect with the Cubs, but he struggled to live up to his potential and spent last season in Double-A for the Indians. He was a solid starter there and might be a candidate for spot starts in Washington when injuries set in. The 27-year-old is nothing more than a high-risk NL-only option once he finally makes his debut, though. Ignore him on Draft Day.
    • Cubs send Brownlie to minors camp

News: The Chicago Cubs assigned RHP Bryan Corey and RHP Bobby Brownlie to their minor league camp.
Analysis: He has no Fantasy value.
