Tigers' Mike Pelfrey: Signs two-year deal

Following up on an earlier report, Pelfrey will sign a two-year, $16 million deal with the Tigers pending a physical, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Pelfrey should provide help for the Tigers' back-end of their starting rotation, but he struggled in 2015 with the Twins, putting together a 4.26 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 164.2 innings. While his 86:45 K:BB this season took a tumble from his previous career marks, Pelfrey's sinker/fastball velocity was the highest it's been since 2012, so there certainly is some reason for optimism. He'll likely warrant some consideration in AL-only leagues, but he isn't expected to produce big numbers with the Tigers.

Tigers' Mike Pelfrey: Nearing deal with Tigers

Pelfrey is nearing a deal with the Tigers, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. There's been some conflicting reports regarding the length of the contract, but it appears as if the Tigers will add another starting pitcher to the rotation just four days after signing Jordan Zimmermann to a five-year, $110 million contract. Pelfrey hasn't been particularly effective in recent years (4.94 ERA combined in last three years), but he should slot in as a quality No. 5 starter capable of eating some innings for the Tigers.

Twins SP Mike Pelfrey strikes out seven Tigers in no-decision

Twins starter Mike Pelfrey looked good allowing just one run on six hits, he did not walk a batter, and struck out seven over five innings, but was left with a no-decision against Detroit on Friday night. The model of inconsistency this season, Pelfrey has been on a roller coaster. This one was near the top of the run, but his 4.09 ERA underscores the number of outings he has struggled in. He clearly has the ability to put together some quality innings, but he needs to be more reliable if he is to ever be a fantasy asset.

Twins' Mike Pelfrey yields four runs on Saturday in loss to Angels

Twins starter Mike Pelfrey(6-10) gave up nine hits and four earned runs in six-plus innings in a 5-2 loss to the Angels on Saturday. He also struck out a batter. Pelfrey has now surrendered 12 earned runs in 15.1 September innings for a robust 7.04 ERA. The veteran right-hander also gave up a homer for the third consecutive start after not allowing a ball to leave the park in seven straight appearances between July 28 and Aug. 29. Pelfrey has had an up-and-down year, twice surrendering eight earned runs in a start and yielding seven in another, but also holding opposing batters to only one in nine other trips to the mound. His inconsistencies aside, Pelfrey figures to be counted on for two more starts in the final critical stretch of the Twins' playoff push.

Tyler Duffey could be in, Mike Pelfrey out of Twins rotation

Paul Molitor has revealed that Twins rotation newcomer Tyler Duffey will not necessarily be the odd man out when Phil Hughes returns from a back injury, per the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Duffey has performed well after a rough debut against Toronto. He has since given up only nine runs in 30 1/3 innings and sported a 2-0 record. Speculation is that slumping veteran Mike Pelfrey could lose his spot. He has just one win in his last 15 starts and has surrendered 14 runs over his last 12 1/3 innings to raise his ERA on the year to 4.17, its highest point since mid-April.

Twins SP Mike Pelfrey saddled with another no-decision Sunday

Pitchers who don't consistently last six innings either rack up a lot of losses or no-decisions. Fortunately for Twins starter Mike Pelfrey, it has been the latter. Pelfrey received neither a win nor a loss in his fifth of six outings Sunday in Baltimore. This one was particularly lucky as he was banished after 4 2/3 innings having yielded three runs on nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Jonathan Schoop played the role of villain, slamming an RBI single in the third and two-run single in the fifth that knocked Pelfrey out. Pelfrey now has 11 no-decisions in 24 starts and a respectable 3.69 ERA.
