Abraham Almonte settles into fourth outfielder role with Indians

Cleveland Indians outfielder Abraham Almonte went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two runs scored in a blowout win over Minnesota on Wednesday.

Almonte was just 3 for 24 over his last nine games, so the breakout is a promising sign in the final week of the year. The young outfielder has been going from team to team and it seems as though he's solidified a fourth outfielder role with the Tribe. With the injury to Michael Brantley , Almonte should be in line for plenty of at-bats over the last four days.

Yankees experiment with John Ryan Murphy at first base

New York Yankees catcher John Ryan Murphy took grounders at first base Tuesday, the New York Post reports.

With rookie Greg Bird struggling against left-handed pitching and Mark Teixeira out for the season, the Yankees are looking for a right-handed option to potentially see some starts at first base. If the team feels comfortable enough with his defensive abilities, Murphy could draw a start there either in the final week of the regular season or in the playoffs.

Indians OF Abraham Almonte sets new career-high with fifth homer

Cleveland Indians outfielder Abraham Almonte went 1 for 3 with a homer, a walk, two RBI and two runs in Friday's win over the Royals.

Though he had struggled as of late, Almonte has provided a spark to Cleveland's lineup over the past month, batting .264 with 10 RBI, 16 runs and five steals. Almonte needs to show better plate discipline, posting a 19.6% K Rate during the same stretch, but he is capable of filling up a wide number of columns on the stat sheet.
