Fernandez signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Heat on Monday, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

After waiving Stefan Jankovic from the training camp roster, the Heat will bring in Fernandez, an undrafted rookie from Valparaiso, for an extended look. It's unlikely that Fernandez will crack the Heat's 15-man roster, but the center, who finished his four-year college career as Valpo's all-time leading shot blocker, may be evaluated for a spot with Miami's D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
