Spurs' Jonathon Simmons: Paces bench with 14 points Saturday
Simmons supplied 14 points (4-6 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three assists, one rebound and one steal across 18 minutes in a 104-96 loss to the Grizzlies on Saturday.
Coach Gregg Popovich had handed Simmons a combined seven minutes across the previous two contests, but leaned more heavily on the second-year swingman Saturday with the Spurs struggling to find much offense outside of Kawhi Leonard (22 points) and LaMarcus Aldridge (21 points). Simmons stepped up to deliver some reliable outside shooting, and may have earned himself some more run Sunday against the Kings. It wouldn't be surprising if Popovich rested Leonard for the contest, which would potentially allow Simmons to take a turn in the starting five.
