Week 11 Fantasy Trade Chart
We're in a new year and so our Igor Mello offers some resolutions in his latest Fantasy Trade Chart to consider when making deals in your leagues.
In this installment of the trade chart, I'd like to offer up some realistic resolutions for the Fantasy owners that have gotten off to a rocky start and are looking to get back on track in 2014. It may be a "new year" and a "new you" and that's why I'm here to help on how you can become a better owner with some trade resolutions.
Always check in with other owners. Your job -- especially if you're down in the dumps -- is to touch bases with every owner in order to see what players are on the block. Other owners have a tendency to have outdated lists of who's on the trading block, so it's always good to touch base with everyone in the league, especially if you have an owner that makes irrational knee-jerk moves.
Trade Fair. This should be self explanatory, and most owners typically abide by this rule. In fact, most leagues have a veto system set up to prevent any lopsided that trades that are not in good spirit. It's never a good thing when you're initial offer is lopsided. You won't go anywhere if you start negotiations like that. Sure, who wouldn't want to flip Roy Hibbert for LaMarcus Aldridge It's just not realistic, so it's always smart to think long and hard before you make your initial offer, because that usually is the best offer you'll make. And most importantly, never be afraid to trade the underperformers -- even if they we're highly touted before the start of the season. I'm talking to you, Jimmy Butler and/or Ersan Ilyasova owners.
The Andrew Bynum rule. This rule is simple. Never make an offer for a player that does not appear to have any interest in playing basketball, or one that has been spotted at the bowling alley in the midst of his recovery process. Bottom line: sell Bynum while/if you can! And make sure you think twice about trading for any big men with chronic knee issues. It never works out to your favor. Just ask those that drafted Amar'e Stoudemire last season in Fantasy.
The Waiver Wire is your friend. The best way to gain any sort of trade value is to scoop up the players who can provide immediate trade value. These waiver wire options are usually players replacing injured starters, so their values may not last long. However, even if they do have some staying power, it's nearly always a safe bet to sell immediately after a productive stretch of games. You won't go wrong with packaging a waiver wire pickup and an underperformer like O.J. Mayo in a deal.
Keep an eye on the injury report. Another great tool to use that can help you earn an extra edge on your opponents. Always keep an eye on the injury status of your players. The only time I advise you trading for injured players is if you're in a difficult situation with your current roster, or if that injured player is on his way back within a week or so. With that said, you should also keep an eye on waiver wire options that haven't been stashed. It's more general roster advice than specifically trade advice, but it could make the difference before the season is over.
