Week 7 Fantasy Trade Value Chart
Injuries have probably cost you in the early going. Our Igor Mello tells you how to find some replacements in his Week 7 edition of the Fantasy Trade Value Chart.
So you took a chance on Derrick Rose in the draft and it only paid off for about four weeks. No need to panic. While other owners may be in a rush to scoop up replacements for injured players like Marc Gasol (knee), Andre Iguodala (hamstring), Anthony Davis (hand) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (hand), you're looking for a point guard, so the advantage is still yours.
At this point the only way to make up for injuries is to take advantage of some buy-low candidates who have been underperforming or dealing with minor injuries. These deals could cost you a solid frontcourt player and will likely be the sort of trades that will make or break you Fantasy team, especially for those looking up in the standings. It may be worth the risk.
It's important to remind Fantasy owners that the odds of acquiring a top-five point guard midseason are never high, so we'll take a look at some lower tier guards who could bounce back after the first several weeks of the season. At this point the injured guards may be the easiest players to target as a potential replacement for Rose.
Because of the arrival of Dwight Howard , Jeremy Lin 's numbers have slightly increased. He was shooting a career-high 50.3 percent from the field and 39.0 percent from downtown before his recent injury. Rose was a better rebounder but his shooting percentage was nowhere near the likes of Lin. There may not be a better time to buy low on a player like Lin. Don't hesitate to make a move on him if an owner is ready part ways with him.
If you're completely desperate and willing to roll the dice on an injured player, Deron Williams could be the man to bring you out of the cellar in the standings. I also lowered his value this week, so now may be the time to buy low on him. He's been in and out of games this season with a bum ankle and could be extremely unreliable. But if you're willing to grab a stopgap option from the waiver wire and show some patience, a deal involving Williams may pay off. With that said, I'd probably target someone like Jrue Holiday , Tony Parker and Goran Dragic ahead of Williams.
Here are some trades that went down involving some of the players we mentioned in actual CBSSports.com leagues. I love the idea of getting Lin for cheap. Williams will be a bit riskier.
Zach Randolph for Jeremy Lin : We have to know the situation before we can declare a winner for this trade. Randolph will obviously see bigger production these next few weeks because of Marc Gasol 's injury. But if you're stuck in a tough spot and have Derrick Rose done for the year, then this trade may be worth the gamble.
Joakim Noah and Wesley Matthews for Deron Williams and Kenneth Faried : I'm a little hesitant of parting ways with Noah right now because of Rose's injury. Since the Bulls are in desperate need of more production, Noah's numbers have started to slightly increase. However, if you're in a pickle for a point guard, Williams could be the answer in the long run and Faried will probably make up for Noah's production on your team.
David Lee and Enes Kanter for Raymond Felton and Joakim Noah : Like I've mentioned before, I'm not ready to consider Noah as an underachiever just yet. Let's see what he does with Rose out of the picture. Felton could be a respectable option to replace Rose despite the recent injury and I'm banking on better games out of Noah from this point out.
Blake Griffin for Goran Dragic and Kevin Martin : This scenario may be a little tougher to handle, especially for those that own Griffin. Although I expect a slight drop from Martin's numbers as the season progresses, trading Griffin for a pair of guards might be the ideal move to replace someone like Rose. Martin (23.2) is scoring more points per game than Griffin (21.0) and you'll see a spike in assists. If you have some frontcourt depth, do not hesitate to pull the trigger.
Injury update: Steve Blake and Raymond Felton both suffered injuries this week. They retain some trade value, but clearly that's diminished, and their values stated below take an obvious hit. Blake -- whose injury (elbow) was the more substantial of the two -- still could perform after he recovers and Felton (who's suffering from a hamstring injury) might get a boost in value if he were to be traded. But in the meantime, be careful with trades involving these two players.
