Ajinca is officially questionable to retake the court Wednesday due to a right-hand injury. The big man saw additional minutes down the stretch as the Pelicans rested their franchise guys, collecting 11 points (5-12 FG, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds and a steal prior to exiting the regular-season finale. He's currently in the second year of a four-year contract with the club and should serve in a bench role for New Orleans nex season. However, playing time could be sparse next season behind the likes DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis.
Ajinca started at center and provided 14 points (5-8 FG, 4-6 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block across 24 minutes in a 108-96 loss to the Lakers on Tuesday. For the third game in a row, Ajinca provided double-digit scoring while eclipsing the 20-minute mark with the Pelicans down DeMarcus Cousins (Achilles) and Anthony Davis (knee). Since the Pelicans have little to gain by having Cousins and Davis suit up in the season finale Wednesday against the Trail Blazers, Ajinca could very well be in line for another start, making him a decent cost-relief option at center in DFS contests.
Ajinca posted 17 points (8-14 FG, 1-1 FT), six rebounds and one assist over 29 minutes in Saturday's 123-101 loss to the Warriors. Ajinca drew another start with Anthony Davis sitting for rest and posted a season-high scoring total. The seven-year veteran has shot 62.5 percent (15-for-24) from the field over the last two games while averaging 6.5 rebounds during those contests as well. Ajinca could see additional starts to finish off the season if the Pelicans opt to sit either DeMarcus Cousins (Achilles) or Davis over the final two games.
Ajinca posted 15 points (7-10 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds, one steal and one block across 28 minutes during a 122-106 loss to the Nuggets on Friday. Ajinca's total of 15 points was just one point shy of his season high, which was set on Dec. 18 against the Spurs. The near double-double performance came totally out of nowhere, as Ajinca had not scored in double figures since March 1. DeMarcus Cousins (Achilles) was held out of the game, which opened up some more playing time for Ajinca.
Ajinca (hip) is not listed on the Pelicans' injury report, Chuck Swirsky of Bulls.com reports. Ajinca sat out Friday's game against the Kings with a hip injury, but it appears it was just a minor ailment and he's officially been given the green light to play. He'll take on his normal bench role, but he typically finds himself outside the regular rotation, so if the game remains competitive, he could find minutes hard to come by.
