Ajinca grabbed his first double-double of the season Wednesday against the Thunder, posting 12 points (6-8 FG), 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in 23 minutes. Ajinca saw an uptick in minutes due to Anthony Davis's injury, and he was able to produce solid numbers as a result. He hasn't made enough of an impact this season with Davis on the court, so any fantasy value he may hold now will be short-lived.
Ajinca will start Saturday for the Pelicans, Sean Kelley radio voice of the New Orleans Pelicans reports. Ajinca will get the start with Omar Asik still nursing his injured calf. Ajinca has only averaged 11.8 minutes per game, but he's likely to get an increase in playing time Saturday if Asik cannot find his way onto the court against the Mavericks.
Ajinca will start for the Pelicans against Orlando on Tuesday, broadcaster John Kelley reports. Ajinca has only averaged 10 minutes per game so far this season but will start Tuesday. The Pelicans are riddled with injuries which is the reason for Ajinca getting into the starting lineup. Expect him to see a lot of minutes with both Omer Asic and Kendrick Perkins out.
Ajinca played just six minutes in the Pelicans' loss to the Warriors, and is now averaging only 10.0 minutes per game through the first three games. Ajinca inked a shiny new contract this offseason, but hasn't been utilized heavily in the early going. While he actually has played more minutes than starting center Kendrick Perkins, it is clear new coach Alvin Gentry is largely staying away from the true centers. Ajinca's preseason injury may have something to do with his limited play, but when Omer Asik gets healthy Ajinca's minutes will only dwindle even further.
Ajinca (hamstring) played 17 minutes in Tuesday's season-opening loss to the Warriors, providing six points (3-7 FG) and four rebounds. When Ajinca was ruled out for four-to-six weeks with a right hamstring strain early in the preseason, it was generally expected that he'd be unavailable for the start of the regular season, but he made tremendous progress in practice over the last few days to make an early return. He roughly split the playing time in the middle with starting center Kendrick Perkins, who logged 16 minutes and put up 10 points. Expect the rough timeshare between the two big men to remain in place for the next handful of games, until the return of Omer Asik (calf) from injury cuts into the playing time of both players.
