Koufos contributed seven points (3-9 FG, 1-2 FT), 11 rebounds, one steal, and one block in 30 minutes during the Kings' 111-104 win over the Bucks on Monday. Koufos stepped into the staring lineup with DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) unable to participate on Monday. Though Koufos shot the ball poorly from the field and committed five fouls and two turnovers, he filled in fairly well in a highly important win while earning 30 minutes of playing time. If Cousins misses anymore games, Koufos could be a nice value play in daily leagues.
Koufos will start in Monday's matchup with the Bucks, Jason Jones of the Sac Bee reports. Koufos is getting the start due to DeMarcus Cousins (ankle) not playing. Koufos is averaging just 14.5 minutes but he'll likely see significantly more minutes while in the starting lineup. Look for him to return to his role off the bench as soon as Cousins returns.
Koufos played nine minutes in Monday's double-overtime loss to the Hornets, finishing with no points (0-1 FG), three rebounds, and one block. Though Monday's game lasted two extra periods and DeMarcus Cousins and Willie Cauley-Stein both dealt with foul trouble, Koufos still couldn't find meaningful minutes, which speaks his to declining role on the team. The rise of Cauley-Stein -- who is averaging 32 minutes over the last four games -- in particular has led to Koufos' demise, as the veteran big man had previously been splitting playing time with rookie. During that same four-game span, Koufos has seen his averages fall to 4.8 points, five rebounds, and 0.8 blocks over 14.5 minutes.
Koufos recorded nine points (4-6 FG, 1-2 FT) and 10 rebounds (five offensive) over 19 minutes in Wednesday's 109-97 loss to the Pelicans. Koufos ended up running with the starters out of the halftime break, replacing Quincy Acy at power forward. Despite that appointment, Koufos actually saw a couple fewer minutes than he's been averaging for the season (21.3), so even if he ends up receiving the starting nod for Thursday's game against the Jazz, he's far from a safe bet to see a substantial increase in court time.
Koufos (illness) will attempt to play Wednesday against the 76ers, Sean Cunningham of ABC10 Sacramentoreports. Koufos was able to work out prior to the game, and he will give it a go Wednesday after sitting out the previous game. He figures to see a few minutes off the bench Wednesday as he usually does when DeMarcus Cousins is in the starting lineup.
