Power forward Greg Smith signed a non-guaranteed contract with the Pelicans on Friday, per Scott Kushner of the New Orleans Advocate. Smith spent last season with the Mavericks but had trouble finding consistency, averaging just 8.6 minutes over 42 games. He's just two seasons removed from averaging nearly 16 minutes while playing in 70 games for the Rockets, but the 24 year old is in danger of falling out of the league. His chances of cracking the opening night roster are relatively slim.
Mavericks center Tyson Chandler has been ruled out of Wednesday's game at Atlanta, reports the team's official website. Chandler has been dealing with a hip issue, but Wednesday's contest will be the first game he has missed because of the injury. In 56 games, he is averaging 10.6 points and 11.7 rebounds. Center Greg Smith should see an increase in minutes with Chandler out. The Mavericks are 7-point underdogs.
Mavericks forward Greg Smith was forced to leave Sunday's game against the Cavaliers with a muscle strain on the right side of his body, reports the team's official website. Smith played 10 minutes in the game before leaving and he did not return. Despite suffering the injury, Smith told reporters he expects to play in Monday's game at Brooklyn, according to the team's official website.
Looking to replace recently traded center Brandan Wright, the Mavericks are targeting centers Jermaine O'Neal and Emeka Okafor, reports ESPN Dallas. Wright was the first backup to center Tyson Chandler with Greg Smith also under consideration to fill Wright's previous role. Okafor has not played since 2012-13 while recovering from a herniated desk in his neck. O'Neal played for the Warriors last season and averaged 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The Bulls signed forward Greg Smith for the remainder of the season on Monday, the team announced. Smith battled knee injuries this season, and was limited to just 3.5 points and 2.5 boards per game in 11 appearances for the Rockets before being waived last week.
