Matthews scored 16 points (5-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT) Tuesday in an overtime loss to the Jazz. He played 42 minutes and chipped in three assists and two rebounds. Matthews will enter the All-Star break averaging 33.1 minutes per game, a surprising total after last season's Achilles injury. He is averaging 2.3 made three-pointers a game despite a recent shooting slump.
Matthews managed seven points (2-12 FG, 1-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 34 minutes during the Mavericks' 91-78 victory versus the Suns on Sunday. Over the last four contests, Matthews has failed to reach double digits once, making just 10-of-36 field goal attempts and just 3-of-20 from beyond the arc. The Mavericks have still won three of those four contests--albeit against the Lakers, Nets, and Suns. However, after averaging 15 points per game in December on 42 percent from the field and 43 percent from beyond the arc, Matthews averaged 11.4 points on less than 40 percent from the field and close to 30 percent from downtown in January.
Matthews scored 13 points in a loss to Oklahoma City on Friday. He finished shooting 5-of-14 from the field, including 1-of-7 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. He added three rebounds and a season-high five steals. Matthews' primary value comes from his ability to his three-pointers. While he remains tenth in the league in three-pointers made, his long-range shot has gone a bit cold as of late. For the month of January, Matthews is shooting 40 from the field, including 32 percent from behind the arc.
Matthews scored 15 points (6-16 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 1-1 FT) Wednesday in a win over the Timberwolves. He added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 40 minutes of work. Matthews has scored in double figures in three straight outings but is struggling with his shot as of late. He is 6-of-20 (30 percent) from behind the arc over that three-game stretch.
Matthews scored eight points (4-of-10 FG, 0-5 3Pt) Wednesday in a win over the Bulls. He added six rebounds and two blocks in 37 minutes of action. Matthews returned from a one-game respite for rest and led the team in minutes played. He struggled on the offensive end but hounded the Bulls forward and his former college teammate Jimmy Butler for most of the night on the defensive end.
