Matthews scored 11 points Tuesday in a loss to the Grizzlies. He finished 3-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-7 from three-point range. He added four rebounds and four assists. After an early season minutes restriction, Matthews has played over 30 minutes in four straight games. Dallas plays the second night of a back-to-back on Wednesday and it remains to be seen if Matthews will be available.
Matthews scored seven points Monday in a win over Philadelphia. He finished 2-of-10 from the field, including 1-of-6 from behind the arc. He added two rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Matthews sat out Dallas' previous outing resting his surgically repaired Achilles. The early season minutes restriction has prevented him from establishing a consistent rhythm though the team has slowly begun to amp up his workload.
Matthews (rest) will return to the lineup Monday against the 76ers, Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com reports. The Mavericks rested Matthews, Chandler Parsons, and Dirk Nowitzki for the second game of a back-to-back set against the Rockets on Saturday, but all three players will be back in the fold for the beginning of the week. Matthews still may face some restriction over the course of the season during back-to-back scenarios, but it looks like any minutes limits for the games he does play will soon be lifted. The swingman has seen at least 30 minutes in each of his last two games, and should regularly settle close to the 33.7 per game he averaged with Portland in 2014-15.
Matthews (rest) won't play Saturday, Mavs radio announcer Chuck Cooperstein reports. The Mavericks will rest Matthews along with Chandler Parsons and Dirk Nowitzki. This will leave a lot of minutes to go around, with Devin Harris and Justin Anderson both expected to benefit on the wing.
Matthews' minutes restriction has been upgraded to roughly 30 minutes per night, the Dallas Morning News reports. Matthews has been limited to 26-29 minutes on most nights through the early portion of the season, but he said after Saturday's game that he'll be allowed to clear the 30-minute threshold. Obviously, that means Matthews is close to playing without restriction, and he said he could be without limitation by the end of November. Matthews is averaging 10.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 27.5 minutes over his last four games.
