Harkless was limited to just 12 minutes in Monday's loss to the Spurs. He finished with five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3Pt) and one rebound. Harkless was expected to be an indirect beneficiary of Meyers Leonard's absence due to a dislocated shoulder, but through three games, Harkless has yet to see a noticeable spike in playing time. In fact, the 12 minutes he received Monday marked his lowest total of the season, though it shouldn't necessarily be taken as a precursor of what's to come.
Harkless posted his first double-double of the season Wednesday in Utah, accruing 15 points (5-8 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 10 rebounds, and three blocks in 29 minutes. Harkless was afforded a season-high in playing time due to the ankle sprain that knocked Meyers Leonard from the contest. Directed to be active by coach Terry Stotts when on the floor, Harkless augmented his work on the boards with a continued touch from beyond the arc, hitting both of his three-pointers. Now shooting 50 percent (6-for-12) from deep for the season, he appears to have progressed from an inconsistent first three campaigns in Orlando, where he nailed just 31 percent of his treys. With Leonard's immediate playing status in doubt, Harkless will likely be a consistent factor in the frontcourt for the foreseeable future, starting Thursday against the Grizzlies.
Harkless is listed as probable for Wednesday's game against New Orleans. Harkless left Portland's preseason finale Thursday with a right ankle sprain. After logging a full practice Monday, he is in contention to start at small forward after averaging 10 points and five rebounds in five preseason games.
Harkless (ankle) was a full participant at Monday's practice, Erik Gundersen of The Columbian reports. Harkless sprained his ankle Thursday against the Clippers and missed practice over the weekend. With Al-Farouq Aminu (hamstring) very much questionable for Wednesday's season opener, Harkless could see a larger role early in the season.
Harkless (ankle) missed Saturday's practice, Jason Quick of CSNNW.com reports. Harkless was limited to working out on an exercise bike during the practice session. It's not yet clear how severe his ankle sprain is at this juncture, which clouds his availability for the regular-season opener Oct. 28 against the Pelicans.
