Murphy was waived by the Magic on Sunday, Jeff Goodman of ESPN reports. Murphy was vying for a reserve shooting guard or small forward spot with the Magic, but was buried on the depth chart behind the likes of Aaron Gordon, Jeff Green, Mario Hezonja, and Evan Fournier. He'll still have a chance to get picked up by another team, but his fantasy value will still be quite low unless he finds a way to get consistent minutes.
Murphy signed a training camp contract with the Magic on Wednesday, Brian K. Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel reports. Murphy has familiarity with the organization after playing for the Magic during summer league, averaging 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 turnovers and 1.2 steals in 26.6 minutes per game over five appearances. The 26-year-old shooting guard last played in the NBA in 2012-13, logging 17 appearances with the Jazz. He's since made stops in the D-League, France, China and Japan, but returning to the NBA has always been a priority. This might mark Murphy's last chance to make it back into the league, but he'll be an underdog to come away with a roster spot even with a strong training camp.
The Warriors acquired Kevin Murphy and his un-guaranteed salary Friday, in a salary dump trade with the Jazz. Murphy is due just $800,000 next season, but the Warriors could waive him to avoid making any payments.
