  • McGruder started all eight games in which he played for the Heat's entries at the Orlando and Las Vegas Summer Leagues. Across both leagues, the Kansas State product averaged 11.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists while shooting 49.5 percent from the floor and 49.4 percent from three. His outside shooting ability and defensive tenacity are what particularly piqued the Heat's interest, so much so that the team inked McGruder to a three-year, partially guaranteed deal on July 7. The expectation is that McGruder will be on the roster next season, though he'll still have to earn his way onto the team in camp.

  • Mcgruder agreed to a three-year, partially guaranteed deal with the Heat on Thursday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports. After graduating from Kansas State following the 2012-13 season, Mcgruder spent a year overseas in Hungary, before joining the NBA D-League the past two seasons. In his 2015-16 campaign with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, he played in 48 games, posting averages of 15.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals over 37 minutes per game. He also shot a solid 51 percent from the field and 38 percent from beyond the arc. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard should provide depth behind Josh Richardson at shooting guard, but he'll still have to make the final roster following training camp considering he's only on a partially guaranteed deal.

  • Celtics set to waive four players
    By Michael Hurcomb

Celtics coach Brad Stevens announced Tuesday the team will waive forward/center Erik Murphy, swingman Christian Watford, and guards Tim Frazier and Rodney McGruder this week, according to Boston.com. "They've been great," Stevens said. "I wish I didn't have to waive them. They've been great teammates, they've put in extra work, they've come back in small groups and worked. But a couple of them had made mention that they've gotten better and that makes me feel good. They were all real professionals about it. I will root for them for sure."
