McDaniels was recalled from D-League Rio Grande Valley on Monday. McDaniels is expected to be active for Monday's game against the Celtics, as Donatas Motiejunas (back) and Patrick Beverley (ankle) are unavailable, while Sam Dekker remains in the D-League. Even after accounting for those three absences, McDaniels still ranks as the Rockets' 11th man, so it's still possible he remains left out of coach Kevin McHale's rotation.
McDaniels was assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League on Wednesday, Jenny Dial Creech of the Houston Chronicle reports. McDaniels has seen just three appearances on the court for Houston this season, totaling seven minutes in mostly garbage time. Unless injuries fall upon Trevor Ariza or Corey Brewer, McDaniels could potentially vacillate between Houston and Rio Grande Valley throughout the 2015-16 season.
Rockets forward K.J. McDaniels (wrist) scored eight points (2-7 FG, 4-4 FT), pulled down five boards, and collected a steal and assist in 12 minutes during Tuesday's preseason loss to the Grizzlies. The wrist injury shelved McDaniels for the entire postseason, but the second-year swingman looked plenty healthy Tuesday night, turning in a well-rounded stat line in limited action. During his rookie season, McDaniels was a sneaky source of steals and blocks while he saw regular time with the 76ers, but upon being dealt to the Rockets, his minutes dried up. The Rockets' deep roster may again undermine McDaniels' effort to reemerge as an interesting fantasy commodity.
The Rockets re-signed guard K.J. McDaniels on Sunday, his agent confirmed to MyFoxHouston.com. The deal is worth a reported $10 million over three years. McDaniels averaged 7.9 points and 3.2 rebounds before his season ended with an elbow fracture.
Rockets guard K.J. McDaniels has been diagnosed with a non-displaced right elbow fracture, according to ESPN. McDaniels sustained the injury last week and the injury has the potential of keeping him out of the entire postseason. In 62 games, McDaniels averaged 7.9 points and 3.2 rebounds.
