Ariza scored 18 (6-18 FG, 4-12 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and grabbed eight rebounds in 37 minutes in Wednesday's win over Portland. Ariza hasn't been shooting lights out but has been getting a lot of shots up in the past few games. Over his last two contests has shot 22 threes, making eight for a 36 percent shooting percentage from deep. The wing has put up 18 and 19 points over the last two tilts, good numbers compared to his season average of 12.6 points per game. Ariza should continue to see a lot of minutes going forward as he's the Rocket's defensive ace on the wing.
Ariza scored a team-high 19 points (7-16 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 1-1 FT) and pulled down nine rebounds with three steals over 32 minutes in Monday's 111-95 loss to the Celtics. With the Rockets trailing for much of the second half, Ariza started chucking the ball in an attempt to get them back into the game. That plan clearly didn't work, but it still translated into a nice night for the veteran wing. There aren't going to be many games where Ariza outshoots James Harden.
Ariza, who the Rockets are listing as questionable with a groin strain, confirmed that he would play Monday against the Celtics, Calvin Watkins of ESPN.com reports. "I'm good, I'm ready to go," Ariza said Monday morning. It doesn't appear the injury will result in Ariza seeing limited minutes Monday, but the swingman's rough start to the season is becoming an annoyance for fantasy owners. Despite playing 35.3 minutes per game, Ariza is averaging only 10.6 points this seaosn, thanks to his struggles from the field (32.1 percent shooting) and the three-point line (30.2 percent shooting). He's still been able to aid owners with his strong production in steals (two per game), but he'll need to step up his poor percentages to justify his draft-day price.
Ariza added 18 points (6-13 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals in 37 minutes during the Rockets' 116-110 win versus the Kings on Friday. Ariza got it going from beyond the arc on Friday, and delivered arguably his best showing of the season. The Rockets have now won three straight, and look to make it four in a row on Saturday when they take on the Clippers. Expect Ariza to continue receiving heavy minutes as the team's defensive ace on the wing.
Ariza posted nine points (3-13 FG, 3-8 3Pt), seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals in 41 minutes during the Rockets' 109-89 loss versus the Heat on Sunday. The Rockets struggled during week one, and Ariza was no exception. Through three games, the veteran forward is converting on only 25 percent from the field, but his elite defensive ability should continue to keep him on the floor as he works his way out of this early shooting slump.
