Nuggets waive three to insure roster spot for F Alonzo Gee

The Nuggets have waived swingman Marcus Williams and forwards Quincy Miller and Jerrelle Benimon, which will result in fellow forward Alonzo Gee landing a roster spot for the regular season. Gee had been a starter with Cleveland before losing substantial playing time last year. He has struggled throughout his career to make an offensive impact.

    • Spurs add Williams to roster

News: The Spurs have signed forward Marcus Williams from their NBA Development League team and waived guard/forward Malik Hairston.
Analysis: Williams was promoted Wednesday from Austin, where he averaged 23 points, seven rebounds and 5.3 assists in 45 games. He averaged a triple-double in three games for the Toros last week. The 22-year-old Williams appeared in 11 games last season with the Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio. He is nothing more than roster depth for San Antonio and should not yet be owned in Fantasy.
    • Bobcats waive two guards Tuesday

News: The Charlotte Bobcats waived guards Donell Taylor and Marcus Williams on Tuesday. The moves reduced the Bobcats' roster to the regular-season limit of 15 players. Taylor appeared in two exhibition games and had two points and five rebounds in 16 minutes. Williams also played in two games, scoring two points to go with three rebounds in 11 minutes. Neither player appeared in Charlotte's preseason loss to Atlanta on Monday.
Analysis: Neither Williams nor Taylor have any Fantasy value while they don't have a team. If one or both should sign elsewhere, we'll let you know. Otherwise, avoid them in Fantasy.
    • Clippers drop one Williams, add one

News: The Clippers signed former Univ. of Arizona standout SF Marcus Williams from the Austin Toros of the NBADL and released veteran Aaron Williams.
Analysis: Marcus Williams, the 33rd pick in the draft, appeared in his only game with the Spurs. He'll likely play a small role on the Clippers and have no Fantasy value. Aaron Williams played minimal minutes, so his release doesn't mean much to the world of Fantasy.
    • Spurs give Williams the boot again

News: The Spurs signed journeyman guard DerMarr Johnson and waived 2007 draft pick Marcus Williams on Saturday. They had just signed Williams on Wednesday.
Analysis: Williams, the 33rd pick in the draft, appeared in his only game with the Spurs on Wednesday against Chicago. He averaged 3.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in seven preseason games. Obviously, he has no Fantasy value and should remain on waivers.
    • Spurs sign rookie F Marcus Williams

News: The San Antonio Spurs signed forward Marcus Williams on Wednesday. The Spurs drafted the 6-foot-7 Williams, who played two years at Arizona, with the 33rd overall pick in the draft in June. Williams participated in the Spurs' training camp and was waived in late October.
Analysis: Williams played nine games this season with the Austin Toros, the Spurs' affiliate team in the NBA Development League, where he averaged 18.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Don't expect him to replicate those numbers in San Antonio, though. Leave him on the waiver wire.
