Hornets' Kemba Walker penciled in as starting PG

Hornets coach Steve Clifford said guard Kemba Walker is penciled in to start at point guard heading into training camp, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports. The announcement comes as no surprise, as Walker finished the past season as the Hornets' leading scorer and go-to man in the clutch. W hile Walker shouldn't face much competition for minutes at point guard with Jeremy Lin and Brian Roberts this season, he'll need to show increased efficiency in order to emerge as a top-tier fantasy performer. Walker shot just 38.5 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from three-point territory in 2014-15, while providing 5.1 assists per game - a rather meager total for a starting point guard playing 35 minutes a night. His assist total could climb now that he's playing alongside what looks to be an improved roster, but he'll still need to raise his own shooting percentages to take the leap forward that many have been waiting on.

Hornets' Clifford: Kemba Walker will never average 30 points

Although Hornets coach Steve Clifford said guard Kemba Walker is not the type of player to average 30 points per game, he did say that Walker can be a dynamic player, reports The Charlotte Observer. "You can win with him," he said. Clifford added that on an ideal team, Walker would be considered the third or fourth scoring option. With Clifford admitting the Hornets lacked offense this season, he said the team would like to add a proven scorer during the offseason. "Offensively we were challenged, and we didn't make the improvement we needed to," he said. "Going into the summer, that's what has to be addressed."
