    Grizzlies PG Nick Calathes signs deal with Greek squad

    Restricted free-agent point point guard Nick Calathes, who tallied playoff minutes for the Grizzlies last year, has signed a three-year, $7 million deal with the Greek team Panathinaikos, per European hoops site Sportnado. However, the deal does have an NBA out clause with a deadline of July 15. If the Grizzlies, who signed Calathes to a qualifying offer on July 1, decide to match the Greek deal, that contract would become void. In 58 games last season, Calathes averaged 4.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

    Report: Tony Allen's suspension from Grizzlies was due to confrontation

    Grizzlies guard Tony Allen served a one-game suspension Tuesday because of a heated confrontation he had with teammate Nick Calathes during a team practice, sources told ESPN. While the altercation was not physical, Allen's suspension was because Allen waved off coaches who were trying to calm him down after the confrontation. With the suspension over, Allen will return to the lineup for Wednesday's game at Houston. The Grizzlies are 3 1/2-point underdogs.

    Grizzlies guard Nick Calathes has finished serving a 20-game suspension and made his season debut Sunday, playing eight minutes off the bench but missing his only shot in his team's 107-91 win over the Clippers. Calathes missed the last seven games of last season and sat out the team's first 13 games this season before returning Sunday. His return and the improved health of the rest of the roster after multiple players were struck with an illness over the previous week puts the Grizzlies roster at full strength moving forward.

    Grizzlies guard Nick Calathes will begin serving a 20-game suspension when the team's first-round playoff series begins against the Thunder Saturday, reports Calathes was hit with the suspension for violating the league's Anti-Drug policy, though his failed test reportedly si not due to testosterone or PED use. According to the report, Calathes tested positive for Tamoxifen, part of an over-the-counter athletic supplement Calathes was using. Calathes appeared in 71 games for the Grizzlies, and his loss will be felt, as he was the team's primary reserve at point guard. He finished his rookie season averaging 4.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 16.5 minutes per game.

    News: According to the Dallas Morning News, Nick Calathes will not likely be a part of the Mavericks roster in 2009-10. The Mavericks acquired his right in a draft day trade.
    Analysis: Calathes is a 20-year-old with play-making ability and good court vision. He will continue to play in Europe for the next year or so, however, and has no appeal in Fantasy.
