Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Scores six points while reentering starting five

Cunningham provided six points (2-6 FG, 2-5 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists, and one steal across 31 minutes in Saturday's 99-84 loss to the Cavaliers. Though he's only shooting 34.1 percent from downtown for the season, that didn't deter Cunningham from camping out on the perimeter Saturday. While he shot the ball well in his opportunities, the fact that he could only muster six shots in 31 minutes of playing time speaks to his limited role in the Pelicans' offense. Even if Cunningham sticks over Alonzo Gee as the starting small forward, there's not much fantasy appeal to be had.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Moves to starting lineup

Cunningham will move into the starting lineup Saturday against the Cavaliers, Pelicans announcer Sean Kelley reports. Somehow Cunningham played 32 minutes in the Pelicans' last game and attempted just one shot from the field, so he is anything but a safe option with Tyreke Evans out. That said, he probably offers a bit more multi-category upside than Gee. Evans has been ruled out through the All-Star break, so Cunningham should see plenty of minutes over at least the next four games.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Comes off bench in return from illness

Cunningham (illness) played 23 minutes and collected seven points (3-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three rebounds, and two blocks in Monday's 112-111 loss to the Rockets. Prior to missing last Saturday's loss to the Bucks with the illness, Cunningham had been acting as the Pelicans' starting small forward, but he surrendered those duties back to Alonzo Gee on Monday. Gee ended up seeing 10 more minutes of court time than Cunningham and thus retains more fantasy appeal of the two players, though neither possesses much upside at all.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Will play in Monday's tilt

Cunningham (illness) will play in Monday's game against the Rockets, Scott Kushner of The Advocate reports. Cunningham missed Saturday's matchup with the Bucks due to an unknown illness, and though he'll return to action on Monday it appears he may not be back to 100 percent health. He'll come off the bench Monday and it's unclear if he'll see any minutes restriction in that role. Alonzo Gee will likely start in Cunningham's place once again.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Probable for Monday's Game

Cunningham (illness) is listed as probable to play in Monday's contest against the Rockets, John Reid of the Times-Picayune reports. Cunningham missed Saturday's matchup with the Bucks due to an unknown illness. If he does return it's unclear if he'll be limited at all. If he misses the game or is limited, look for Luke Babbitt to see some extra time.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Will sit out Saturday

Cunningham will sit out of Saturday's matchup with the Bucks due to an illness. It is unclear the severity of Cunningham's illness, but his next opportunity to play will be Monday versus the Rockets. Alonzo Gee will likely replace Cunningham in the starting lineup. Luke Babbitt should also see an increased role with the team in Cunningham's absence.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Plays 24 minutes Monday

Cunningham contributed seven points (2-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two blocks, one rebound, and one steal in 24 minutes during the Pelicans' 101-99 loss versus the Grizzlies on Monday. Cunningham is posting 5.2 points (34.6 FG, 35.3 3Pt, 100.0 FT), three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 25 minutes per game over his last five appearances. He consistently earns minutes thanks to his ability to defend and do the little things, but Cunningham is mostly left alone by opposing defenses--and with good reason.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: In the starting lineup Sunday

Cunningham is in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Clippers. Cunningham supplanted Alonzo Gee in the starting lineup on Friday. He went on to post just four points (2-5 FG, 0-3 3Pt) and two rebounds, but the Pelicans are going to give him another shot Sunday despite a poor performance in his last start. With Anthony Davis out of the lineup, Cunningham, as well as Ryan Anderson, could see extended minutes in the frontcourt.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Moves into starting lineup Friday

Cunningham will start in place of Alonzo Gee on Friday against the Pacers, John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. The Pelicans will shake up their starting five Friday, swapping Cunningham in on the wing in place of the under performing Gee. Cunningham has averaged 8.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and .8 blocks per game in his five starts this season.

Pelicans' Dante Cunningham: Held under 10 minutes for third time in four games

Cunningham played only six minutes in Friday's 94-88 overtime loss to the Heat, finishing with no points (0-1 FG) and one rebound. Cunningham has seen less than 10 minutes in three of the Pelicans' last four games, as the team's gradual return to full health has resulted in a steep reduction in his and Alonzo Gee's minutes. The duo will only see their playing time retreat further in January, when Quincy Pondexter, who started at small forward for 28 games in the regular season and all four of the Pelicans' postseason games in 2014-15, returns from a knee injury.
