      Gustavo Ayon's NBA future still in doubt

      Free agent forward Gustavo Ayon is expected to leave the NBA to sign a contract with Real Madrid, but reported Tuesday there are complications with his deal. According to the report, the Spurs are still interested in Ayon, indicating that there are some hang-ups with his contract in Spain. Ayon is fully recovered from shoulder surgery that ended his season with the Hawks after 26 games, as he showed in the FIBA World Cup tournament. He averaged 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in five games for team Mexico.

      Gustavo Ayon undergoes season-ending shoulder surgery

      Hawks forward Gustavo Ayon underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder on Friday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Ayon had been dealing with shoulder issues all year. He missed the first eight games of the season with an injury to the same shoulder, and then suffered an injury to the same shoulder on Feb. 18 before undergoing surgery. Ayon was averaging 4.3 points and 4.8 rebounds through 26 games.

Ayon has already missed four games as a result of the injury, but had been optimistic about his chances of returning for part of the team's current back to back.       Hawks forwards Gustavo Ayon and Pero Antic have yet to be cleared for practice, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Monday.Ayon missed Saturday's game against the Knicks after reaggravating a right shoulder injury suffered at the start of the season. Antic is working his way back from a stress fracture in his right ankle, which has caused him to miss 17 consecutive games. Both remain uncertain for Tuesday against Chicago.

He suffered the injury in the second quarter and was unable to come back out from the locker room after halftime, when he was replaced in the starting five by Elton Brand. He also scored just six points on 3 of 7 shooting, but added two assists and no turnovers in the loss. Ayon has appeared as a starter in nine of his 21 games this season, but is averaging just 5.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in thos games.
