Magic's Andrew Nicholson: Scores season-high 18 points in Monday's loss

Nicholson had his best game of the season in Monday's 117-103 loss to the Cavaliers, scoring a season-high 18 points (6-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 3-3 FT) and ripping down eight rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. Nicholson had struggled to crack the Magic rotation, but with so many players struggling he made the best of his opportunity Monday. It was the most playing time he's seen all season, so Nicholson is definitely someone to keep an eye on for a potential waiver wire claim.

Magic's Andrew Nicholson: Sees season-high 22 minutes Wednesday

Nicholson made just his third appearance of the season in Wednesday's overtime win over the Timberwolves, scoring eight points (3-12 FG, 2-3 3Pt) and grabbing seven rebounds over 22 minutes. Nicholson has been outside of coach Scott Skiles' rotation all season, but after starting center Nikola Vucevic submitted a lackluster first half Wednesday, Skiles elected to shake things up in the frontcourt. Skiles benched Vucevic for the entire second half, allowing Nicholson and Jason Smith to each play more than 20 minutes on the night. It's not expected that Vucevic, who has averaged a double-double the past three seasons, is likely to see a huge drop in minutes beyond Wednesday's game, so consider Nicholson's appointment into the rotation to be a one-time measure. By shooting poorly from the field in his extended minutes, Nicholson didn't exactly make a strong case for a regular role.

Magic's Andrew Nicholson: Doesn't see any action Monday

Nicholson was unable to see the court Monday when the Magic fell to Indiana 97-84. The 25-year-old power forward has only played four minutes in Orlando's first eight games. It doesn't appear that Nicholson will be seeing much playing time going forward barring any injuries to the Magic lineup, as he is slotted behind Tobias Harris and Aaron Gordon on the depth chart.

Magic's Andrew Nicholson: Fails to see action Wednesday

Nicholson was a DNP-CD in Orlando's 110-107 overtime win against the Pelicans on Wednesday. Nicholson has seen fairly limited minutes (13.8 MPG) this preseason and it's hard to project what can be expected from the power forward entering his fourth season in the league. He will open the year behind Tobias Harris, Aaron Gordon, and Channing Frye at power forward. Orlando is loaded with a lot of young talent and Nicholson appears to be on the outside looking in at this point.

Report: Magic place Andrew Nicholson on trading block

The Magic are looking to trade power forward Andrew Nicholson before next Thursday's trade deadline, according to a report from The Magic are working with Nicholson's agent, Mark Bartelstein, to move the big man to a new team. Magic fire coach Jacque Vaughn after two-plus seasons

After a week of reports that the front office was not happy with his job, the Orlando Magic have fired coach Jacque Vaughn on Thursday. The team will hold a press conference later in the day to announce his departure. Former video coordinator James Borrego will be the team's interim coach. Scott Skiles has also emerged as a serious candidate to replace Vaughn, per Wojnarowski. General manager Rob Hennigan released the following statement: "Jacque (Vaughn) has been a trusted friend and colleague," said Hennigan. "We thank him immensely for his contributions and sacrifices in bringing our team to this point, and we greatly appreciate his unwavering commitment to our organization. We have tremendous respect for Jacque and certainly wish him the best as he embarks on the next phase of his career." Vaughn's team was in the midst of a 10-game losing streak, the second-longest slide in his tenure. They also own the fifth-worst record in the NBA (15-37), which puts them 13th in the Eastern Conference, 7 1/2 games behind the eighth and final playoff spot. Vaughn was an assistant for the San Antonio Spurs before replacing Stan Van Gundy as coach of the Magic in 2012, following the Dwight Howard era. The 39-year-old was tasked to rebuild the team after Van Gundy led Orlando to an NBA Finals appearance in 2009, drafting players like Andrew Nicholson, Kyle O'Quinn, Victor Oladipo, Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton. He owns a 58-158 record during his three-year tenure with a young core of players. His 26.9 win percentage was the lowest among any coach franchise history.

Magic to make Harkless, Nicholson inactive for Wednesday's game

The Magic will list Maurice Harkless and Andrew Nicholson as inactive for Wednesday's game against the Pistons, according to the team's website. Nicholson has already missed the past four games, so the news shouldn't come as a surprise for him. Harkless had been seeing time with Tobias Harris sidelined, but will not play now that Harris is ready to return.

Magic forward Andrew Nicholson continued to struggle Tuesday against the Nets, as he hit just one of his field-goal attempts in a 101-90 loss. In his last 15 games, he is averaging just 3.8 points per game while shooting just 30.7 percent from the field.
