Grizzlies' James Ennis: Won't play Wednesday

Ennis will not play Wednesday against the Warriors, Peter Fleischer of FOX 13 in Memphis reports. Ennis and Mario Chalmers were dealt to the Grizzlies from Miami on Tuesday, and both players will be held out Wednesday with the expectation that they'll debut Friday against Portland. Ennis played sparingly for the Heat, and he'll likely hold a similar role in Memphis, at least initially.

Grizzlies' James Ennis: Traded to the Grizzlies Tuesday

Ennis was traded to the Grizzlies along with Mario Chalmers in a deal that sent Jarnell Stokes and Beno Udrih to the Heat, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Ennis will be joining a Grizzlies team that is filled with wing players such as Courtney Lee, Vince Carter, Jeff Green, Matt Barnes, Jordan Adams, and Tony Allen. Though he probably won't play significant minutes, his role in allowing Mario Chalmers to join the Grizzlies means that Memphis can play a more uptempo game.

Heat's James Ennis: Practices through dislocated finger

Ennis, who is dealing with a dislocated finger, practiced fully Monday, Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post reports. The left ring finger injury sidelined him during Sunday's practice, but it doesn't sound like the issue is serious enough to keep him out for Wednesday's season opener against the Hornets. Ennis will be available as a bench option for coach Erik Spoelstra, but don't expect him to see significant minutes.

Heat's James Ennis: Totals 19 points Sunday

Ennis totaled 19 points (8-13 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-3 FT) and six rebounds over 24 minutes in Sunday's 101-92 victory over the Hawks. Ennis posted a preseason high in scoring and turned in his most efficient performance of the exhibition slate. The second-year small forward has certainly flashed some potential in the preseason after a lackluster Summer League stint, but it remains to be seen whether it will be sufficient to keep him on the final roster.

Heat's James Ennis: Contributes 10 points Wednesday

Ennis totaled 10 points (4-12 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two assists, three rebounds, and a steal over 33 minutes in the overtime loss to the Magic on Tuesday. Ennis was on the court for more than six minutes for the first time this preseason but did not turn in a very efficient performance in the process. The second-year pro particularly struggled with his three-point shot, sinking only one bucket from beyond the arc in seven attempts. Ennis presently faces a steep hill with respect to climbing the small forward depth chart, with offseason acquisition Gerald Green, first-round pick Justise Winslow and entrenched starter Luol Deng ahead of him. His fate will likely be decided over the balance of the Heat's preseason contests.
