Nets' Shane Larkin: Dishes out career-high 14 assists in Monday's loss

Larkin dished out a career-high 14 assists while scoring eight points (4-5 FG) with six rebounds during 22 minutes in Monday's 105-100 loss to the Pistons. Brook Lopez didn't miss many shots, resulting in the career benchmark for Larkin. The former Miami Hurricane is splitting time with journeyman PG Donald Sloan, but it's Larkin who figures to be more involved in the Nets long-term plans. Because of this, expect Larkin to slowly get more minutes as the season progresses.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Scores nine points, adds four steals off bench

Larkin provided nine points (4-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four assists, four rebounds, three rebounds, and two blocks over 21 minutes in Sunday's 116-106 win over the Thunder. Larkin filled out the stat sheet nicely and helped ensure that the Nets' offense kept humming along when starting point guard Donald Sloan was resting. Sloan hasn't been lighting it up in a starting role, but he's offered superior production compared to Larkin, who received the first crack at commanding the offense when Jarrett Jack went down with a season-ending ACL tear in early January. Both Larkin and Sloan figure to split the minutes at the position fairly evenly the rest of the way, which will conspire to limit the fantasy appeal of both players.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Solid off bench Wednesday

Larkin recorded 17 points (6-10 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), five assists, and two rebounds in 25 minutes during the Nets' 110-104 win over the Knicks on Wednesday. Larkin is averaging 11.0 points, 5.5 assists, two rebounds, and 0.5 steals in 25 minutes per game in his last two games off the bench. Oddly enough, he is doing more damage off the bench over the last couple contests than he was in the starting lineup, which is likely the result of him going up against more backups. It's possible he will remain productive in this role, but fantasy owners who picked him up when Jarrett Jack (knee) got injured were likely hoping Larkin would inherit a few more minutes.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Scores five points in move to bench

Larkin contributed five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 FT), six assists, two rebounds, and one steal across 24 minutes in Monday's 106-79 loss to the Spurs. Larkin was dropped from the starting lineup in this game in favor of Donald Sloan, but the two point guards still ended up splitting the playing time right down the middle. Larkin ended up outproducing Sloan by the slightest of margins Monday, but since Jarrett Jack (knee) underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL, the duo has been largely unimpressive. It's possible that Larkin is able to wrest away the starting job from Sloan at some point, but he'll need to turn in several strong outings in a row before he entices fantasy owners.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Will come off the bench Monday

Larkin will come off the bench for Monday's game against the Spurs, Mike Mazzeo of reports. Interim head coach Tony Brown has decided to send Larkin to the bench in favor of Donald Sloan. Larkin has been replacing Jarrett Jack as the starting point guard after Jack suffered a season-ending ACL tear. In his four starts since replacing Jack, Larkin has averaged 8.3 points, 3.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 steal in 28 minutes.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Logs another 30 minutes Friday

Larkin recorded 12 points (5-8 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 30 minutes during the Nets' 83-77 loss against the Magic on Friday. Larkin made his third straight start on Friday in the wake of Jarrett Jack's season-ending injury. In those three starts, Larkin has averages of 8.3 points (57.9 FG, 18.2 3Pt, 50.0 FT), 3.7 rebounds, three assists, and 1.3 steals in 29 minutes per game. Though he is highly unlikely to continue shooting such a high percentage from the field, Larkin could have decent value in deeper leagues if the Nets are content to let him play this much for the remainder of the year.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Scores just four points in start

Larkin scored four points (2-7 FG, 0-3 3Pt) to go with two assists and two rebounds across 27 minutes in Monday's 103-94 loss to the Celtics. With Jarrett Jack (knee) out for the season with a torn ACL, Larkin unsurprisingly claimed the starting role at point guard, but was thoroughly unimpressive in his extended playing time. Fortunately for Larkin, Donald Sloan didn't stand out while covering the leftover 21 minutes at point guard, scoring just five points, four rebounds, and three assists. The Nets are headed nowhere this season and have little to lose by sticking with the uninspiring tandem of Larkin and Sloan, but if the two continue to combine for pathetic showings like they did Monday, management may look outside the organization for a more high-upside replacement option for Jack.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Will take over starting spot

Larkin will start at point guard Monday in place of Jarrett Jack (knee), Jay King of reports. As expected, Larkin will be handed the reins after Jarrett Jack went down with a torn ACL over the weekend. It's unclear if the move will be permanent, though with Jack lost for the season, the Nets' roster isn't exactly overflowing with attractive replacement options. Outside of Larkin, Donald Sloan is the only other true point guard on the roster, and Sloan has held only a minor role off the bench. Larkin, a 2013 first-round pick, enters Monday with averages of 6.6 points, 3.8 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 29 games this season.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Likely in line for long-term starting role

Larkin appears to be in line for the starting point guard role following the news of Jarrett Jack's (knee) season ending due to a torn right ACL. Larkin is averaging a modest 6.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 2.2 boards over 19.1 minutes per contest this season, but the removal of Jack from the picture leaves about 30 extra minutes up for grabs in the Nets' backcourt. A large portion of that playing time is expected to go to Larkin, who profiles as a better option at point guard than Donald Sloan or Markel Brown, neither of whom have been consistent rotation options this season. The added minutes should enable Larkin to emerge as a more regular double-digit scoring threat, but his overall ceiling remains a bit limited due to his underdeveloped offensive game.

Nets' Shane Larkin: Expected back Wednesday

Larkin (concussion) is expected to return to action Wednesday against the Mavericks, Mike Mazzeo of ESPN reports. A concussion has kept Larkin out of the last four games, but he's now passed through the league's protocol and is officially listed as "probable." Prior to the concussion, Larkin was averaging 7.1 points and 4.7 assists in 21.1 minutes per game through seven December contests. His return will spell a reduced role for Donald Sloan off the bench.
