Hornets' Troy Daniels: Has yet to make preseason debut

Daniels has missed all three of the Hornets' preseason games with a left hamstring strain.Daniels was expected to receive a token opportunity to challenge for a starting role with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is expected to miss most of the season with a shoulder injury, but that chance may have fallen by the wayside. After averaging only 12.3 minutes per game with the Hornets last season, Daniels was already being regarded as a fringe rotation option, and the injury has only made matters worse. Report: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist out several weeks with dislocated shoulder

Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist suffered a dislocated right shoulder in Saturday's preseason win over the Magic and is expected to miss several weeks, the Charlotte Observer reports. The injury occurred when Kidd-Gilchrist was sent flying hard to the floor after a foul by the Magic's Tobias Harris. He remained in Orlando overnight for X-rays on the shoulder, which came back negative but revealed a dislocation. He'll be officially reevaluated Monday, but a dislocated shoulder typically requires 3-12 weeks of recovery time, making it quite likely that Kidd-Gilchrist misses the Oct. 28 regular-season opener in Miami. It's not clear how much time beyond that Kidd-Gilchrist will be sidelined, but it should be clarified as he progresses from the injury. In Kidd-Gilchrist's absence, the Hornets could opt to move Nicolas Batum over from shooting guard to small forward, which may pave the way for Jeremy Lin, Jeremy Lamb, P.J. Hairston, or Troy Daniels to temporarily ascend to the starting lineup.

Hornets pushing SG Troy Daniels to expand game

Hornets guard Troy Daniels got his foot in the door last season. But to join the party permanently, he must expand his game. His coaches have made that clear. Steve Clifford wants him to work more off the dribble. Associate head coach Patrick Ewing would like him to get stronger. "I'd like to see a total all-around game," Clifford told the Charlotte Observer. "He can really shoot and he's learning how to find space to get his shots off. He's worked really hard this summer at playing off the second dribble. "Now I want to see it all: him knowing the defense, all of what we're doing. He'll get plenty of opportunities (in Summer League action) in pick-and-rolls and catch-and-shoot." Daniels showed glimpses of talent last year. He made 13 of 25 shots from beyond the arc down the stretch. "That's the reason I'm in the NBA, because I shoot the ball and space the floor," he said. "That's something Charlotte needs. I showcawed it a little bit at the end of the season and hopefully I'll get to do that more." He'll apparently need to do more than that to land a spot in the rotation.

Timberwolves ship Mo Williams to Hornets for Gary Neal, Troy Daniels

The Timberwolves have traded guard Mo Williams to the Hornets, in exchange for guard Gary Neal, guard Troy Daniels and a second-round draft pick, Charlotte announced Tuesday. In order to clear roster space, the Hornets released Elliot Williams from his 10-day contract. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Hornets are determined to make a playoff push, and feel that the addition of Williams would give them a chance to make a run while Kemba Walker remains sideline. The move would also keep Lance Stephenson from running the point while Walker is injured. Outside of point guard depth, Williams gives Charlotte another threat beyond the arc. Williams is averaging 12.3 points and 6.5 assists in 40 games (19 starts) this season for Minnesota. He has knocked down 40.3 percent of his field goal attempts and 34.7 of his shots from downtown. Meanwhile, Neal has appeared in 43 of Charlotte's 52 games, posting averages of 9.6 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 35.9 percent from the field over that span. Daniels is averaging 2.8 points and 0.5 assists in 35 games between Minnesota and Houston. Daniels is familiar with the organization. He spent time in Charlotte's training camp in 2013.
