Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Logs season-high 31 minutes

Allen saw a season-high 31 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Mavericks, finishing with 11 points (2-5 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-8 FT) to go with four rebounds, two steals, and one assist. It was just the second time all season that Allen finished with double-digit scoring production, while the high minutes count may have been a product of Courtney Lee's ongoing struggles from the field. Lee has been in a season-long funk from three-point line, which could continue to result on coach Dave Joerger leaning more frequently on the defensive-minded Allen to assume the bulk of the minutes at the two-guard spot.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Grizzlies' Allen Plays 22 Minutes In Start Versus Pacers On Thursday

Allen added nine points (4-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, and four steals in 22 minutes during the Grizzlies' 112-103 win versus the Pacers on Thursday. Allen came off the bench behind Jeff Green in the season opener versus the Cavaliers on Wednesday, but coach Dave Joerger quickly abandoned that starting lineup, re-inserting Allen on Thursday. Still, he committed five fouls, and played seven minutes fewer than Green. This won't always be the case, but unless you're desperate for steals, Allen doesn't provide a ton of value outside of deeper leagues.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Will start Thursday

Allen will be in the starting lineup Thursday against the Pacers. Allen, who's established as a prominent defensive stopper on the wing, has earned the start Friday, likely in place of small forward Jeff Green. Just one game into the season, Allen should see somewhat of an increase in minutes as he's thrust into the starting lineup. This should provide a few more opportunities for Allen to score and rack up the steals.

Grizzlies' Tony Allen: Collects 13 points Sunday

Allen collected 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-4 FT), an assist, two rebounds, and two steals over 29 minutes in Sunday's 90-68 victory over the Timberwolves. Allen received his most extensive playing time to date in the preseason while also recording his highest scoring total over the three games he has participated in. The 33-year-old's superior defense has also been on display over the last pair of outings in particular, during which Allen has collected five steals. Particularly known for his stalwart play against opposing offenses, the veteran is also capable of respectable scoring contributions on occasion. Allen is currently slated to be Courtney Lee's primary backup at shooting guard, but can certainly fill in at small forward when needed.

Grizzlies guard Tony Allen set to play in Game 6

Grizzlies guard and premier defender Tony Allen is ready to roll for Game 6 of their second-round series against Golden State on Friday night. He has to be. His team is one loss from elimination. There will be plenty of time to nurse his strained left hamstring in an offseason he doesn't want to arrive too quickly. He considers himself 60 percent, but that will have to do. "Obviously, I'm fighting the injury," he told the San Francisco Chronicle. "But I'm ready to come out and help my team win, the best way I can, whatever percent. I want to be in this battle with my teammates." Dave Joerger said he purposely withheld Allen from Game 5 to give him three days to heal.
