      MRI confirms torn thumb ligament for Blazers' LaMarcus Aldridge

      An MRI has confirmed that Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge has a radial collateral ligament tear is his left thumb, the team announced Thursday. He will require surgery on his thumb, which is expected to keep him sidelined for six-to-eight weeks. Aldridge suffered the injury Monday and played just 14 minutes in his team's home win over the Kings. His initial X-rays came back negative but his first MRI delivered inconclusive results due to swelling in the thumb. His second MRI Thursday revealed the torn ligament, which will keep the power forward sidelined until at least early March. Aldridge has averaged 23.2 points and 10.2 rebounds in 38 games. Dorell Wright saw a season-high 35 minutes of action Wednesday and could be called upon to fill Aldridge's starting role while he remains out.

      Trail Blazers forward Dorell Wright started his fifth game in a row Saturday against the Bobcats, in place of the injured LaMarcus Aldridge. Wright played just 24 minutes in the start, but still managed to record a season high in scoring with 17 points. He shot 6 of 12 from the field and added a 5-for-5 mark at the free-throw line, while tossing in six rebounds as well, in the 124-94 loss. Wright is averaging 12.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game since joining the starting lineup.

Wright scored 12 points on 3 of 5 shooting, with two of his three makes coming from three-point range. He added four rebounds and filled up the box score well overall, with two assists, one block and one steal in 27 minutes. Wright has started four games in LaMarcus Aldridge's place, scoring in double-figures twice. He is still averaging just 4.4 points per game for the season, his lowest total since 2008-09.
