Nuggets PG Emmanuel Mudiay dominates in preseason win

Denver Nuggets rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay scored 17 points (7-14 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and dished out five assists while playing 31 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Dallas Mavericks .

With coach Mike Malone and GM Tim Connelly endorsing Mudiay as their starter at point guard, the 19-year-old immediately becomes a leading contender for Rookie of the Year honors. Mudiay will likely have his moments of inefficient shooting and recklessness (he had seven turnovers Tuesday), but since the ball will frequently be in his hands, he should have ample opportunity to pile up counting stats for fantasy owners.

Nuggets point guard Emmanuel Mudiay confirmed as starter

Denver Nuggets guard Emmanuel Mudiay  was confirmed as the Nuggets' starting point guard Monday, Matt Moore of CBS Sports reports.

"We're going to have a 19-year-old starting point guard," general manager Tim Connelly said.

The news really comes as no surprise given the Nuggets' personnel at point guard and considering the fact that they selected Mudiay with the seventh overall pick in June's draft.

Mudiay, who played part of last season overseas before suffering an injury, figures to see a heavy minutes load on most nights, but he remains somewhat of an unknown considering he did not play college basketball.

That said, he's performed well in international competitions, and he was one of the better rookies at the Las Vegas Summer League.
