3h agoThe Commanders are declining the fifth-year option on Davis' (shoulder) rookie contract, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Washington took Davis with the 19th pick in the 2021 Draft, and while he's started 36 of 45 games through three seasons, his elite athleticism (4.47 40, 42-inch vertical) hasn't translated to elite performance. The 25-year-old likely will be a starter again in 2024 under new coach Dan Quinn, but it won't come as any surprise if this ends up being Davis' final year in Washington. He had season-ending shoulder surgery in December, potentially impacting his participation in spring practices.

18h agoElliott's agent will meet with the Cowboys in Dallas on Wednesday, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.
The two sides have been connected throughout the offseason, as Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported last month that Elliott and the Cowboys had mutual interest in a reunion. The Cowboys lost Tony Pollard to the Titans in free agency and only added end-of-roster types Royce Freeman and Snoop Conner to a running back room that includes Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis. Elliott played in all 17 games for the Patriots last season, carrying 184 times for 642 yards and three touchdowns while adding a 51-313-2 receiving line on 65 targets.

Per Schefter, Hendrickson -- who is under contract for $15 million in 2024 and is on the books through 2025 -- is looking for more long-term security than the Bengals have been willing to offer to this point. The 29-year-old is coming of a 2023 campaign in which he recorded 43 tackles and made a major impact as a pass rusher by racking up a career-high 17.5 sacks over 17 games.

21h agoThe Cowboys exercised the fifth-year team option on Parsons' rookie contract Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Per Gehlken, the star edge rusher will earn $21.32 million in 2025, but that salary may only serve as a placeholder before Parsons and the Cowboys are able to work out what's expected to be a lavish long-term deal. The 24-year-old is coming off another productive effort with the Cowboys in 2023, as he racked up 64 tackles and a career-high 14 sacks in 17 regular-season outings.

James Hurst NO OGJames Hurst: Announces retirement
22h agoHurst announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons on Wednesday, Katherine Teller of ESPN.com reports.
Hurst started 51 games between guard and tackle for the Saints since joining the team as a free agent after the 2020 season. Prior to his stint with the Saints, Hurst began his career with the Ravens in 2014 after going undrafted out of North Carolina. His retirement comes just one day prior to the start of the 2024 NFL Draft and leaves the Saints with a glaring need at left guard, though the team did reportedly have advanced warning of Hurst's decision.

Penei Sewell DET OTLions' Penei Sewell: Inks massive extension
23h agoSewell and the Lions agreed to terms Wednesday on a four-year, $112 million contract extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Sewell's deal, which reportedly includes $85 million guaranteed, makes him the highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The 23-year-old right tackle has played at a high level since joining Detroit as the No. 7 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he took a step forward in 2023 while earning first-team All-Pro honors. In addition to Sewell, the Lions extended top wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown to a four-year extension Wednesday, one day in advance of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Max Scherzer TEX SPRangers' Max Scherzer: Next rehab outing set for Tuesday
7m agoScherzer (back) is scheduled to make his next rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Frisco, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Scherzer will look to push up his pitch count in his second rehab outing after he struck out four over 2.1 innings (52 pitches) while allowing three earned runs on five hits and no walks in his 2024 debut Wednesday with Triple-A Round Rock. Since Scherzer missed all of spring training while completing his recovery from Dec. 15 surgery to address a herniated disc in his back, he could require an additional rehab start after Tuesday to get fully stretched out. The right-hander looks on track to return from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut for the Rangers in early May.

He'll man shortstop for the second game in a row and is expected to serve as the main option at the position after J.P. Crawford (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, according to Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM. Moore has a pair of 20-steal seasons on his resume and already has five stolen bases in just 53 plate appearances so far in 2024, so his speed could make him an appealing short-term option in deeper mixed leagues now that he's on track to get consistent playing time.

19m agoThe Mariners transferred Santos (lat) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Thursday.
The transaction was made in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Leonardo Rivas, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma. Santos is in the midst of a throwing program as he works his way back from a right lat strain, but the Mariners are proceeding conservatively with him. He won't be eligible to make his season debut until late May.

Framber Valdez HOU SPAstros' Framber Valdez: Starting Sunday in Mexico City
21m agoAstros manager Joe Espada said that Valdez (elbow) will return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's game against the Rockies in Mexico City, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Valdez has been on the IL since April 9 due to inflammation in his left elbow. He built up to 40 pitches in his last bullpen session Wednesday, so his first start back from the injured list will likely be an abbreviated one. In any case, his return will still give Houston's rotation a much-needed boost following the recent move of Cristian Javier (neck) to the IL. Valdez surrendered three earned runs and struck out 10 batters over 12.1 innings across his first two starts before getting injured. Given Valdez's expected workload restriction Sunday in addition to the high altitude in Mexico City likely creating a hitter-friendly environment, fantasy managers may want to hold off on immediately activating the southpaw.

Kornet has already missed the first two games of Boston's first-round series against Miami with a calf injury. While Kornet could return to action if the series is drawn out, the Celtics appear to be using Al Horford as their sole bench big.

Gafford is in danger of missing Friday's contest after a lower back injury limited him to nine minutes of action in Game 2. If Gafford is officially ruled out, Dereck Lively and Maxi Kleber are candidates to receive increased playing time.

5h agoGilgeous-Alexander had 33 points (13-19 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), three rebounds, five assists and two steals across 35 minutes during Wednesday's 124-92 victory over the Pelicans in Game 2 of the Western Conference first round.
The Thunder secured a statement win in Game 2 of the series, and Gilgeous-Alexander was dominant en route to his first 30-point effort since April 9, when he exploded for 40 points in a win over the Kings. Gilgeous-Alexander should lead the Thunder in Game 3 on Saturday, and he's having an excellent series so far, shooting 55.8 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from deep in the first two games against New Orleans.

Lomberg accompanied the Panthers to Tampa Bay, but he will be replaced by Kyle Okposo on the fourth line for Game 3. Lomberg had five goals, two assists, 80 PIM and 179 hits in 75 games during the regular season.
