When it comes to Fantasy Football, it's your job to be prepared. Every year, it's our job to help you prepare, which is why Jamey Eisenberg and I take part in a two-man draft. It's to give you an example of what you might (and might not) expect when it comes to drafting in your 12-team PPR league.
Naturally, there are picks that we love, some we hate and some we wish we could have had. By the time you're done reading this you should at least have a baseline of what we'd recommend doing from your draft slot.
Here is my team at No. 6 overall in PPR ...
- 1.6 Rob Gronkowski, TE, Patriots
- 2.19 Brandin Cooks, WR, Saints
- 3.30 Randall Cobb, WR, Packers
- 4.43 Danny Woodhead, RB, Chargers
- 5.54 Jeremy Hill, RB, Bengals
- 6.67 Marvin Jones, WR, Lions
- 7.78 Chris Ivory, RB, Jaguars
- 8.91 Carson Palmer, QB, Cardinals
- 9.102 Devontae Booker, RB, Broncos
- 10.115 Arian Foster, RB, free agent
- 11.126 Laquon Treadwell, WR, Vikings
- 12.139 Jimmy Graham, TE, Seahawks
- 13.150 Vikings DST
- 14.163 Blair Walsh, K, Vikings
There's nothing wrong with taking Rob Gronkowski with a first-round pick, especially in a PPR league. He's the difference-maker you want at a position that's tough to come up with big points from.
My gameplan after taking Gronk was to take the best available players with my next three picks before even thinking about need. That worked out in Rounds 2 and 3 (Brandin Cooks and Randall Cobb) but I had to veer toward a running back in Round 4 or else risk getting left with crappy starters. There's plenty to like about Danny Woodhead -- he should catch a slew of passes and remain the best running back for the Chargers, who coincidentally have a good schedule. I settled for Jeremy Hill in Round 5 mainly because I didn't want to get caught thin at running back.
Carson Palmer was a steal in Round 8 and my next four picks -- Devontae Booker, Arian Foster, Laquon Treadwell and Jimmy Graham -- were purely speculative. If even one of them hit it big this season my team will be ticketed for the playoffs.
