Following another shaky performance - which included his fifth missed extra point of the season - coach Rex Ryan says he's sticking with Carpenter based on his solid track record of kicking well in poor weather conditions, BuffaloBills.com reports. "We've got a veteran kicker that you guys know he can kick the conditions," said Ryan on Monday. "Not everybody can do that. I think obviously the one kick you can't kick it better than he kicked it, the 50-yarder. So you know that is fine."

We're not sure Ryan would have been so nice had the Bills lost Sunday in part to Carpenter's two missed kicks Sunday. We actually think the coach was a bit harsh on the veteran in the preseason, but now that the season has rolled on we're starting to wonder why Carpenter can't get it right on extra points. With the playoff race so tight, another missed kick could cost the Bills their season. That said, Carpenter has proven he can kick in the nasty Buffalo weather, so there's something to be said about not bringing in a new guy and throwing another variable into the equation, one where the Bills have almost no wiggle room left.
