Hester (toe) does not plan to retire after being released by the Falcons on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Hester played just five games while battling a toe injury for the majority of last season, eventually undergoing surgery in January with a recovery timetable estimated at 4-6 months. Though it's possible the toe is still a concern, Hester did pass a physical before he was released by Atlanta, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure. Hester's reputation should ensure that he gets a chance to compete for a return job with another team, but he'll likely be on the roster bubble wherever he lands. He played just one snap on offense last season, and he wasn't particularly impressive as a return man during his two-year stint in Atlanta. Regardless of how his career ends, the 33-year-old long ago cemented his reputation as the best return specialist in NFL history, recording four separate seasons with three or more special teams TDs.
