The Giants placed Darkwa (lower leg) on injured reserve Tuesday, Michael Eisen of the team's official site reports.

Darkwa has been plagued by discomfort in his lower leg since earning his second start of the season (and career) on Oct. 9 in Green Bay. In fact, he's been contained exclusively to special teams over the last four games. Perhaps knowing something the general public does not, the Giants may be closing in on opening Shane Vereen's (triceps) window for a return, which could occur as early as Wednesday. In any case, Darkwa ends the season with 31 carries for 147 yards and one touchdown, while hauling in eight of 13 passes for 75 yards.
