At last week's Combine, head coach Mike McCarthy pondered whether Janis can "take that next step" in 2016, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. "Great kid, hard-working, very powerful," McCarthy added. "But there were just a lot of things, when he does them, they're for the first time. Hopefully we're out of that phase of his development...He made the step in your second year that you look for. He did it first on special teams."

Janis was a persona non grata for much of his second campaign, primarily because he was raw as a receiver. First, though, he had to gain the trust of McCarthy on special teams, which turned into a season-long affair and resulted in exactly two regular season catches for the second year in a row. Pressed into duty in the divisional round at Arizona due to Randall Cobb's lung injury, Janis kickstarted the offense, corralling seven of 11 targets for 145 yards and two touchdowns. The performance endured Janis further to the coaching staff, but his development in the offseason will ultimately determine his next step as a professional.
