Saints' Josh Hill: Splits snaps with Fleener
Hill played 46 of the Saints' 73 offensive snaps against the Panthers in Week 6, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He caught two passes on five targets for 23 yards, including a spectacular eight-yard touchdown grab in the fourth quarter.
Hill saw his first action since suffering a high ankle sprain in Week 1, and although his touchdown reception was impressive, he didn't exactly set the box score on fire. Perhaps more importantly, however, was Hill's substantial playing time. Although starting tight end Coby Fleener was the recipient of two touchdowns -- a two-yard run on a "tight end end-around" and a 50-yard catch -- Hill actually out-snapped Fleener (41 snaps) against Carolina. The Saints uncharacteristically ran a lot of two-tight end sets, which may explain Hill's increased playing time. But, it's also worth noting that Week 6 was the first time the two tight ends have played a full game together (Hill was injured early in Week 1), so it's unclear how the Saints intend to divide the snaps going forward. Hill is still probably best left on waivers, but the situation is worth monitoring.
