Week 2 Fantasy Football Matchups
This week, Chris Johnson is stuck between a rock and a hard place, which means his Fantasy owners are as well. The Ravens are fresh off of a dominating win over the Steelers where they held Rashard Mendenhall to 45 rush yards on 12 carries. Johnson is coming off an awful game where he totaled less than 50 yards and ran with the ball only nine times.
Sounds like Johnson is in for a tough game in Week 2, right? It's possible, but there are some reasons for optimism. One, Johnson kicked off the rust in Week 1 and the Titans coaching staff admitted they didn't use him enough. So more reps are expected and Johnson should be more than capable of making the most of them. Two, the Ravens run defense might have finished with a terrific stat line on Mendenhall but they got off to a horrific start as Mendenhall had 37 yards on his first four carries. The Steelers fell behind pretty quickly in Week 1 and abandoned the run, hence the low totals. And as tough as the Ravens run defense is now, they were just as stout in the 2008 postseason when Johnson totaled exactly 100 yards and a touchdown against them on 12 touches. That piece of history isn't exactly relevant since it was three years ago but it is proof that Johnson can be solid against 3-4 run defenses. There might be a few running backs taken after Round 3 who I like better than Johnson, but the feeling here is that the matchup isn't too daunting for Johnson and that he should stay in lineups in Week 2.
