The Buccaneers have signed receiver David Gettis to a deal after working out on a tryout basis at minicamp last week. ESPN reports that Gettis is still working his way back from some previous injuries but could be a steal for a team thin on the receiver depth chart.
The Redskins have released kicker Jake Rogers and receiver David Gettis. Neither one recorded a stat in football last season.
Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and his receiving targets will gather in Arizona next week to "knock off some rust and get a jump on offseason workouts," reports the Washington Post. The receivers scheduled to attend include Pierre Garcon, Aldrick Robinson, Santana Moss, new additions Andre Roberts and David Gettis, tight end Jordan Reed and running backs Alfred Morris, Evan Royster and Chris Thompson.
The Redskins signed receiver David Gettis to a reserve/futures contract, enabling him to participate in offseason workouts. Released by the Panthers in September, Gettis put together his best season as a rookie in 2010 when he caught 37 passes for 508 yards and three touchdowns.
Domenik Hixon has gone from the Panthers' most likely No. 3 receiver to the roster bubble, reports ESPN.com. Hixon, who had been out with a hamstring injury, will play Thursday against the Steelers in the preseason finale. "So this could be Hixon's coming out party -- or sendoff," the report said. In Hixon's absence, the competition for the No. 3 spot was between Armanti Edwards and David Gettis, "with return specialist Ted Ginn Jr. figuring in the mix," according to the report.
