The Falcons plan to use Clayborn solely as a defensive end in 2016, according to the Falcons Team Website. The Falcons rotated Clayborn at defensive tackle at points last year, but they felt he made a bigger impact at defensive end. In his first season year with the Falcons, Clayborn racked up 15 quarterback hits and three sacks, and the Falcons believe he can build on those numbers working only as a defensive end in 2016. He should see a boost in sack numbers this year if he can stay healthy.
Clayborn has signed a two-year deal to remain with the Falcons, Peter Schrager of Fox Sports reports. Clayborn recorded 15 tackles and three sacks in 2015 for the Falcons. He started five games and appeared in all 16 and will likely remain in a similar role going forward.
Clayborn racked up 15 total tackles and three sacks for the Falcons in 2015. Clayborn worked as a rotational pass rusher and run stopper for the Falcons in 2015, but he played less than half (49.8%) of the total defensive snaps. He enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, and he may look for greener pastures with the potential for an increase in playing time.
The Falcons signed a couple of players with hopes of bolstering a defense that ranked dead last in the NFL a season ago. Atlanta announced that it has signed contracts with defensive end Adrian Clayborn and cornerback Phillip Adams. Clayborn's 2014 season ended early due to a biceps injury. Adams, a journeyman entering his sixth NFL season, appeared in 12 games for the Jets in 2014 and totaled 24 tackles and one interception. Clayborn played the entire 2013 season and recorded 64 tackles and 5 1/2 sacks.
Former Titans outside linebacker Derrick Morgan remains on his visit to the Falcons on Wednesday, while former Buccaneers defensive end Adrian Clayborn is on his way to visit the team, reports ESPN.com. Atlanta needs to land at least one of the two to bolster its toothless pass rush, the website said. Morgan, who played college football in Atlanta at Georgia Tech, has 19 sacks over his last three seasons. Clayborn missed most of last season with a biceps injury but registered 5.5 sacks in 2013 and 7.5 sacks as a rookie in 2011.
