Player Outlook

Steve Johnson should continue to be the No. 3 receiver for the Chargers, and he's worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues this season. He was the No. 3 option in 2015 and played in 10 games with 45 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns on 65 targets. He's now gone three seasons since he last had at least 70 catches, 1,000 receiving yards and six touchdowns, and those days are likely behind him given his age (30 in July) and role behind Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin. He's also failed to play 16 games in the past three seasons, so his Fantasy value is limited in the majority of leagues.

  • Chargers' Stevie Johnson: Placed on IR
    By RotoWire Staff

Johnson (knee) was officially placed on injured reserve Thursday. Johnson underwent successful knee surgery Tuesday, but wasn't placed on injured reserve until Thursday, which has now officially ended his 2016 campaign. The 30-year-old receiver has played in eight NFL seasons and will likely have to prove he's still got enough left in the tank following a tough knee injury. The Chargers signed James Jones to fill in for Johnson at wide receiver to help provide depth behind projected starters Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin.

Johnson (knee) will not play this season after undergoing surgery to repair his meniscus. Johnson suffered the injury in Sunday's practice, and underwent surgery on his knee Tuesday. The procedure was said to have gone well, but unfortunately the veteran learned Wednesday that he will be sidelined for the year. Johnson played 10 games with the Chargers last season tallying up 497 yards and three touchdowns in the process.

  • Chargers' Stevie Johnson: Has procedure on knee
    By RotoWire Staff

Johnson (knee) underwent knee surgery Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. As is normally reported in such cases, the procedure was said to have gone well, though at this point there is still no timetable for the wideout's potential return to action. Even if Johnson's knee repairs Tuesday were minor, time seems to be working against him relative to the possibility of suiting up in Week 1. In his absence, Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin top the Chargers' wideout depth cart, while Tyrell Williams, Dontrelle Inman, James Jones and Javontee Herndon jostle for slotting behind the team's top duo.

  • Johnson (torn meniscus) will not have a recovery timetable until after he undergoes surgery later this week, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Johnson has already been diagnosed with a torn mensicus, but the full extent of the damage won't be known until doctors get a clear look inside his knee. Even a best-case scenario would likely lead to missed time at the beginning of the season, while a worst-case scenario might rule him out for the year. Dontrelle Inman and Tyrell Williams are the favorites to earn the No. 3 wideout role in Johnson's absence, though the Chargers have also been working out some veteran free agents.

  • Chargers' Stevie Johnson: Tears meniscus
    By RotoWire Staff

Johnson suffered a torn meniscus during Sunday's practice and will require surgery, NFL.com reports. Johnson's injury is a tough early development for the Chargers' offense. The veteran caught 45 passes for nearly 500 yards and scored three touchdowns in 10 games during his first year in San Diego, but will now be sidelined for an undetermined, but likely lengthy, time period due to his knee injury. With him out, Dontrelle Inman and Javontee Herndon could slide up the Chargers' wide receiver depth chart.
