Former University of Iowa standout quarterback Ricky Stanzi has been cut by the Jaguars. Stanzi was stuck behind Chad Henne and Blake Bortles. He has yet to throw a pass in a regular season game after three seasons.
The Jaguars plan to ease in rookie quarterback Blake Bortles, but he would be next in line if Chad Henne got hurt, reports the Florida Times-Union. The report says it's "a guarantee" Bortles would be next in line if Henne was injured even though the Jaguars don't want to rush Bortles into action. Ricky Stanzi would be the only other quarterback candidate if Henne got hurt.
The Jaguars have made QB Ricky Stanzi, CB Dwayne Gratz, RB Delone Carter, LB Geno Hayes, TE Allen Reisner, OL Patrick Lewis and DE Gerald Rivers inactive Week 17. Both Hayes and Gratz were ruled out prior to Sunday. The other five players were not listed on the injury report, and are healthy scratches.
