The Chargers made several moves Tuesday, adding running back Shaun Draughn and linebackers Kevin Reddick and Cordarro Law to the active roster. The team also placed running back Danny Woodhead on injured reserve and released defensive lineman Lawrence Guy. The Chargers added three players to the practice squad Tuesday as well: running back D.J. Adams, tight end David Paulson and outside linebacker Colton Underwood. Adrian Phillips was released from the practice squad, while Marcus Cromartie was released from the reserved-injured list.
The Steelers announced their final round of cuts to trim the roster to 53 players Saturday, as they parted ways with 22 players. The Steelers released defensive backs Isaiah Green, Dayonne Nunley, Shaquille Richardson and Ross Ventrone, linebackers Chris Carter, Howard Jones and Dan Molls, and defensive linemen Ethan Hemer, Josh Mauro, Roy Philon and Nick Williams on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, the team cut tight ends Rob Blanchflower, Bryce Davis and David Paulson, running backs Josh Harris and Stephen Houston, wide receivers Derek Moye and Lanear Sampson, offensive linemen Graham Pocic, Will Simmons and Guy Whimper, and quarter Brendon Kay.
The Steelers used three tight ends Sunday at Green Bay and all of them made small contributions to the victory. The most interesting was a 30-yard grab by David Paulson from Mat McBriar on the first possession of the second half off a fake punt. The catch led to a touchdown that put Pittsburgh ahead. Another rare contributor as a pass-catcher who played the role of hero was Matt Spaeth, who snagged an 11-yard scoring strike from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger later in that quarter to again put his team up. Starting tight end Heath Miller pitched in with three receptions for 17 yards.
The Steelers received minor offensive contributions from a few role players Week 3 at home against the Bears.Tight end David Johnson caught two of the three passes thrown his way by Ben Roethlisberger for 51 yards while tight end David Paulson caught one pass for a 6-yard gain. Fullback Will Johnson caught a 5-yard pass in the first quarter for his only action of the night. Wide receiver Markus Wheaton was targeted once and finished without a catch. He has yet to come down with a reception this season.
Steelers tight end David Paulson had a 34-yard catch against the Bengals, but he was stripped at the end of the play by cornerback Adam Jones, who recovered the fumble. Paulson caught three of his four targets for 49 yards. Paulson, whose targets are sure to go down once Heath Miller returns, plays the Bears in Week 3.
