The Texans will sign Allen, the Houston Chronicle reports. Allen, who spent last season on IR with a torn Achilles, is now in line to provide the Texans with added depth at safety, plus he can serve as a contributor on special teams. In his last NFL regular season action, Allen notched 41 tackles in 15 games (including eight starts) for the Jets in 2014.
The Jets have placed safety Antonio Allen on season-ending injured reserve Monday after having dispatched him to the waived/injured list Friday, per Associated Press. He tore an Achilles tendon during practice the previous day. The team has also announced the activation of defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson from the active/physically unable to perform list.
The Jets have waived/injured backup safety Antonio Allen, who sustained a torn right Achilles in practice Thursday, per NJ.com. He has been deemed done for the year. He could return and be placed on injured reserve if he clears waivers. Allen was a seventh-round pick in 2012 who performed well enough to earn significant playing time, particularly over the past two seasons. A brief stint at cornerback failed, leading to his return to the safety position.
Jets reserve safety Antonio Allen sustained what could be a serious Achilles injury Thursday on the last play of practice, ESPN is reporting. Allen dropped to the ground in pain during a non-contact drill. He tried to get up, but could not and was helped off the field by trainers. Todd Bowles later confirmed the injury, but its severity has yet to be revealed. A torn Achilles would sideline him for the year. Allen has played in all but one game over the last two seasons and has contributed to 78 tackles during that time.
Jets wide receiver Percy Harvin (rib) and center Nick Mangold (ankle) are the most notable players listed as questionable for Sunday's season finale at Miami. Defensive lineman Damon Harrison (illness), safety Jaiquawn Jarrett (shoulder), safety Dawan Landry (illness), cornerback Darrin Walls (shoulder) and defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson (toe, illness) joined Mangold and Harvin as questionable for Sunday. Meanwhile, the following players were deemed probable: Safety Antonio Allen (hand), guard Willie Colon (knee), kicker Nick Folk (right hip), running back Chris Ivory (hamstring) and running back Chris Johnson (knee). Safety Rontez Miles (shin) was the only player on New York's final injury report of the season ruled out for Sunday.
